Ahhh, the elixir of life...good on you Jack, I've yet to plant anything here but I have been busy barrowing manure onto the plot.

      Steve...:)

Got my carrot box filled today. Used three of those pallet collars you put me on to Jack. Six bags of compost (3 for £10 at Morrisons - you mentioned those as well) mixed with 6 bags of sand - lovely, ready now for the carrots.

Oh bummer, tatties in and the whole plot, dug, forked, manured, dug and raked, ready to go
          Seedlings ready,
I was then pointed out to some truth, our beautiful walled garden is in the middle of a wood
          full of starving wood pigeons
I had forgotten my episode back in October, when my cabbages and leeks were shredded in less than 24 hours

Now I am off to get some netting tomorrow, some supports and empty milk containers

I am also working on a cunning netting plan, similar to the roller blind principle, for ease of use

          Regards Jack McH

Disaterous day, time for plan B

I tried my netting experiment, it did not work
Bamboo is not the best for threading through netting, Though my next try is with dowel rods!
            they should slide along easier

Managed to clean a plot and plant strawberry plants through straw

Back tomorrow to complete netting experiment and ready a patch for my onion sets

I have to wait until the end of this month as we've had some very hard frosts despite nothing since January

I put my Sturon onion sets in last week. As Jack said we were forcast frost last night so covered my young tomato plants with fleece just in case - minimum temperature in greenhouse recorded at +1 degree  maybe they got it wrong. All the other plants seem to be doing alright. Just checked temperature minimum 6.7 degrees last night (Sunday) - so much for the hard frosts.

Surprised myself this week, as my first time allotmenteering,
I have rows of cauli with heads around 8" pure white, the same with broccoli, but green :-)
More strawbs than we can eat (the grandkids are away touring Europe just now with there Mum and Dad)
                            Supplying the street with lettuce,
I dare not start on the potatoes, I just planted certain varieties to test taste and use, Now I have tons (food bank do not want them as they are not INSTANT meals or Tins)

It's nice to be able to share with people who appreciate the fresh vegetables. Our food banks will take fresh. Never forget the time I was selecting potatoes at the grocer and a fellow shopper was taking only the humongous ones. He said that he organised charity dinners and the volunteers only liked to peel the big ones. Then he asked me if the maraschino cherries in my cart were for Manhattans later ... :heehee:

Anyway Jack, that is wonderful to hear. Congratulations on so much accomplished in less than a full season!
