And yet, through all the videos we have all seen of the people there, nobody seems to be worried or overly upset... They seem to be 'getting on with it' if that is the correct way to put it.

I know for sure that I would be unable to stay as composed as many of the Japanese people, and respect them enormously for that.

Still the aftershocks keep hitting, with the worries of additional ground movement, more buildings collapsing, further tsunami threats, plus the possibility of a nuclear meltdown, it still looks pretty bleak for them.

Merciless mother nature and all her destructive power.

Over 10,000 missing in one town alone, which only had 20,000 to start with.

The more I see of the extent of the Japanese disaster the more I'm staggered by the enormity of it. The last great earthquake, and consequently a tidal wave, killed over 250,000 in Asia. The last ten years does seem to have had it's fair share of natural disaster with such a great loss of life.

If there's one country that knows it's living on borrowed time regarding earthquakes, it's Japan. It's also the only country that knows how to prepare for it. They have regular nationwide training sessions, they have control centers set up specifically for such an event, but the magnitude, savage brutality of this event is beyond any country's resources or preparations. The "ironical" thing is that Japan would not exist but for the upward movement of the plates in the earth's crust - it's a high price to pay.

According to the Japanese Scientists the last earthquake, tsunami, of the same magnitude happened 1000 years ago, so they knew it would happen soon but couldn't forecast it. Who could forecast the tragic pictures we saw of the complete destruction of wide areas and the inability of the population, in the path of the tsunami, to escape it?

The death toll seem to. inevitably, to keep going up and up with what appears to be complete towns wipeD out. While I don't think it will go as high as the Asian disaster it's going to be high. What a tragedy. and what a waste of life.
