Hi,
Well they take an age to grow, plant one year, harvest the next.
Each year I say I won't bother with them again, then I see the sets in a garden centre,and I end up growing them again.

But you plant them at the end of a season and crop them at the beginning of the next one, at least, that's what I do, so where is the problem? The get pulled and some other crop gets put into what was their bed.

They give you something to do during the winter months! Jap onions are pleasant to eat, but as many have said - poor on storage. I usually chop mine up and put them in bags in the freezer. I grow my summer crop of other onions varieties from seed - recommend it. It sounds fussy, but growing from onions from seed is incredible fruitful and rewarding
