Sounds a good one Spruce, I like the huge ones too and also have 'Sum and Substance' and 'Big Daddy' I bought one last year called 'Yellow River' which gets to 4-6ft across pretty quickly apparently, yours sounds another for the wish list:D

That's more like it. In terms of growing potential, do you think it would be better to buy a 1 litre perennial (maybe 5 or 6 growing points) for a tenner or get three 9cm plugs (probably about 5 or 6 growing points) from ebay for £18? The 1 litre plant could be split into smaller plugs but then, you'd have to pay postage on it. And maybe it would only have 3 or 4 growing points. So many decisions.

If you're anywhere near Suffolk you could just visit them!

Strangely enough, Suffolk is a part of the world I rarely have any cause to visit!

Have bought Empress Wu and Jurassic Park from Bali Hai nursery (I think it was cheaper to go direct than use their ebay site when I bought - so worth checking).

I very much doubt the 8foot claim on the Jurassic Park but will be interesting to see what size they can manage. 2 foot would look pretty impressive if it can manage that.

perhaps the 8 foot is measured to the top of the flower and not the overall height of the leaves

I planted a few large leaved hostas in a garden last year .... (bought 10 for £25 from a hosta breeder on ebay) ...

they are still small in size, (seller said they were 2 years old) and had been grown in pots ....

so will be interesting to see what happens this year

Got 2 big Hostas in the ground myself .....they are getting realy big , but I`m start to think to get read off them ......for the simple reason that if I don`t put any snail poison at least once a month this is what I`m getting.

That is a big problem with Hostas sal, and slugs were the main reason I gave up growing them a few years back. But last year I tried again and mine were unscathed, they have all died off now over winter.

Is that a recent photo sal?

I love giant leaves , but really don`t like to see plant in that state , that`s the good point of this forum , I would never bough any hosta if someone would have told that . At the moment I`m looking for some decent priced giant calla hercules ......they are frost hardy and poisonous , let`s the snail try ; ).
