I've only just caught up with this thread. Fantastic work, John. You're making me feel very bad for bunking off a bit of light decorating which badly needs doing :). We had to more or less take apart and rebuild our Victorian terraced a few years back (when I say we, I mean my OH did all the hard work and I passed tools to him and slapped some paint around, not always very well) and I think we're both feeling a little jaded.

Top marks JWK for all your all endeavours. I've not long joined this forum and I've just read through your thread. I know from first hand experience what it takes to undertake both the building and landscaping work you've carried out. Your fortitude, courage and conviction is admirable. look forward to updates, good luck!

Thanks justracing, very kind of you to give me encouragement.

Well it's been too cold to do much, we have the foundations laid for the patio retaining walls and the first couple of courses of blockwork done, all covered over in blankets fo rthe time being.

Thanks Dave, I can't see us getting much done until after Christmas either.

The Snowman has got my shovel and won't give it back:

I tried to laugh out loud then, but my sore throat wouldn't let me.

      Nice one John :D

Hows the Guildford one way system coping with the ice ? Total standstill as usual ?

Ziggy, yes Guildford is as bad as ever - people were stuck inside the Bedford Road multi-story car park for about an hour queuing to get out when the snow first hit.

Kristen; they do grow quick! Hopefully she'll be able to help me in the garden next spring. There's another granddaughter due on New Year's eve :help:

Hee hee, so far I have resisted buying one, the only space I could put one is a bit of a dumping ground from my building works, full of old pallets and wood waiting for a bonfire in the spring.

Making a bit of progress on the new patio wall, got the lower retaining wall blockwork done today, which I'll cover in granite to form a curved seat, got to build the upper level next, which will form the back of the seat:

There are planty of holes and there's no problem with drainage here Ziggy, any rain disappears straight down through the chalk, it never forms puddles. Thats not such a good thing in my veg patch, as you can imagine it takes a lot of watering in the summer.
