Thanks for that. I've still got to render the blockwork on my veg patch retaining wall:

so I might use that mesh idea.

Looks good, did you do the blockwork yourself?

You can get the mesh from B&Q, and I'd say the best way to stick it on is with clout nails, and then do your scratchcoat over it & It should last for years! Be careful when you cut it, though, as it's like a razorblade!

Yes I built that and the flint panels which I am quite proud of. Lifting those blocks up onto a mortar bed is one of the most difficult things I've ever tried, ended up making step ups out of spare blocks to make a reasonble working height - the wall is about 5 foot high.

Looks really good! Don't think I'd have the patience to build it, though.

It'll look even nicer when it's finished, no doubt.

We used the mesh on the back wall of our summerhouse before rendering it (as it faces the neighbour's garden we rendered and painted it to match his house because he would be able to see it all the time) and it still looks as good as new after 4 years.

John, I don't think you looked round the back of it when you were here so I've just found and am adding some photos of the progress of it.

Thanks shiney. No I didn't look around the back when I came for the open day. It looks good, right you've both convinced me that mesh is the way to go

Make sure you get galvanized or stainless, there is a ferous one about thats only for internal use, that'll rust & blow the render.

I've finished planting around the new patio, got the water feature running and now it's just a few tidying up jobs left:

                        That is absolutely brilliant, John!

You should enter it for a show or a competition or something.

                        Really, really superb. Well done.
