Hi Mike, we had decided that it was an Arum italica I think. But since it took so long to find out what it was, I now just stick to the name I gave it - Exotic Weed.

I thought I had something really exotic growing all by itself here and then my sister LofL and also the next-door neighbour said it was a weed! He said it grew everywhere in Africa and was a pain elsewhere. I think this might be the case, as we have it in several places now, but not enough to be a problem - yet!

Thanks for all those names, it was Lords and Ladies that was finally decided upon.

Thank you. I've never looked to see if the Cotton grass produces seeds but I will look this year Kandy and send you some.

The Exotic Weed is a tough plant - like all weeds are. I saw one recently, first time ever, for sale. Well, it was just the bulb and it cost ââ??¬3.99 for just one! Ours must have been seeded out by birds.

The Granny's Bonnets are starting to look pretty too. We brought seeds (or was it seedlings?) from my Auntie and Uncle's garden in England years ago and now we have them in several places in our garden. White ones suddenly appeared some years ago, don't know where from.

Same here, Kandy - re campanula, and aquilegia. Both lovely flowers, though! :D

I really like your garden, K-G - it's so nice to see a mature garden that's sensibly kept-up. That might sound like a put-down, but it's not meant that way! What I mean is, that I see so many places that have been neglected, and spend my time restoring them, so it's nice to see one that doesn't need my attention! :D

Hi Kandy and Dendy, I only know the term Granny's Bonnets for these flowers (and they do look like bonnets to me!) and this is what my Auntie and Uncle called them too.

We have a small plant called Campanula, great clumps of it in the meantime, and the flowers look very much like my Granny's Bonnets but the leaves are different.

I only know Aquilegia as such, or Akelei in German. But it is very possible that some areas use one word and others a different one for the same thing.

Dendy, invitation still stands to spend a few days with us if you get over this year to visit your friends. Then we'll see about if our garden needs a bit of attention or not! A few tips would be very welcome.

Hi KG, what you call Grannies bonnets look to me like a variety of campanula or Bell flower

    like this

I agree with Aquilegia being known as grannies bonnet.

I agree with you all and also myself!

The pic I took of my Granny's Bonnets is a Campanula, or Bell Flower as you also mentioned Mike.

Aquilegia, Columbine and Granny's Bonnets are of one family.

Obviously, it is just a case of different people calling the same flower/plant by different names. I am sticking to my name but I have learned something new from this topic. Thanks!

I'll take some pics when the small Campanulas bloom.
