Thanks everyone! But some are you are soooo cruel - I'm on a diet which is why I'm buying the bananas in a larger quantity than usual - bananas in plain yoghurt, bananas on cereal. Ah, well, lost 10lbs these last five weeks (including Christmas, mark you!) so maybe one day soon......

Always thought Bananas helped you put on weight, my friend was told to not eat too many when she went to weight watchers.

Try Slimming World diet - bananas are 'free food'
i.e. eat as many as you like!

Try the new TwoDiets Ã?® ââ??¢ method, you eat twice as much therefore you have twice the weightloss.

Edit: Thinks we might get a slap from Nathan if we don't get this back onto a gardening topic so has anyone ever tried growing bananas or plantains?

    [IMG] Banana Muffins:

    10 oz (280g) s r flour
    1 teasp Bicarb
    1/2 teasp salt
    3 ripe bananas (approx 1lb (450g) peeled)
    4-5oz (110-140g)sugar
    1 egg
    3oz (85g)melted butter or 3floz (90ml) corn oil
    2 floz (60ml) milk

    1. stir flour, bicarb & salt together in large bowl
    2. In another bowl, mash bananas then add sugar, beaten egg and melted butter/ corn oil
    3. pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients & stir until just combined. It will be lumpy - do not beat.
    4. pour into muffin cases and cook 20-25 mins at 190-200 deg.c until tops sring back when touched.

This will make approx 8 large or 11-12 fairy cake size.

They do taste banana-ery, are miost but do not keep more than a day or two. I often freeze them and get out only as many is needed.(but I'm not ususally that organised!! :D )
Are yummy for breakfast, dinner, tea, midnight snack............ and because thet are home-made, are excellent for doing the "smug" domestic godess thing too!!!!

    Enjoy!!

He, he.... going back to bananas in the garden - I have a couple of banana plants I got from the Eden Project.... the boys love them (our own rainforset, etc.....) Anyway - they were about 1.5m big this year.... and I forgot to take them in and they got the frost!!!! the leaves do the same as the fruit - go black and shrivel..... so I hope I haven't killed them and they will grow back.... (have put them in the greenhouse now), am thinking about brining them into the house....
Any suggestions???? Have I killed them like everything else in the garden??? :( :(
