The seeds were collected in Italy - just can't resist bringing them back - will probably put them in a pot with something else that will flower round them - the leaves are pretty anyway!
Have tried layering a clematis ( Bees Jubilee) and now have 3 plants from one-so that was a success and as I have a lot of shade in my garden this one grows well in those conditions. Not had any success from cuttings though but will Keep trying

I have given up growing Proteas and wasn't going to post on this thread in case I put you off but I lost mine at a metre high, just collapsed over a month or so. I kept them outside in their third summer and the overwintered them under glass, then they died. I hope you all have better success, Pete, yours look very healthy so here's hoping. [IMG]
I don't usually give up but...

    Which protea was it strongy?
You know sometimes you get one seedling that is that bit stronger than the rest, well this is my one.

Malcolm, I've never had much sucsess with cematis cuttings either, I can get them to root but they then shoot very late in the season, and not ripening the wood, it dies over the winter.
As they are internodal cuttings, there are no dormant buds below ground to sprout the following season and the cutting dies.
