    It was cut down to the ground by last years winter. It now has about 30 stems.:heehee::heehee::yess:

    That's a beauty Dai :thumb:, I had one like that once, three main stems and I lost count of the amount of suckers in was throwing up at its peak, I know several friends and family had babies that I took off the main plant. I managed to protect most of it over the winters and its main stems reached about 10ft and the suckers were 3-6ft tall; covering an area of about 6ft square.

    Unfortunately when I moved, my mum couldn't cope with it in the winter so it wasn't protected and the last two winters finished it off sadly.....

        At the RHS Wisley garden just near me they encased their musa basjoo in about a foot depth of straw with plastic over the top. This was about a month ago, I'll try and find the photos of it later. I was going to copy their method.

          I think the root ball,here, was protected because the tops were knocked down by the frosts and snow. :dbgrtmb:

          I remember when I lived near Wisley and popped in there all the time (sigh!), they used to wrap their banana plants up so they resembled hay stacks.
