Oh I forgot to post the photo I took at the end of October in Wisley's Tropical Garden. Here it is, their Musa Basjoo's were cut down from about 12 ft tall and encased in straw:

That's a good pic, JWK. I might try that next winter as I can get hold of loads of straw from just down the road.:D

Here's a couple of pics of the overspill if tender plants from the Cool Room into the kitchen area.

While the Kitchen area is fairly cool my Orange and Lemon "trees" are now starting to flower:what::scratch: Should they be doing this at this time of year:scratch::D

        Nice one Armandii,

I've seen ripe Oranges on trees in Mallorca in early feb so I guess they are a late blossoming tree.

Are yours grafted? Mine are grown from seed so don't expect flowers yet.

Thanks for the latest pics Armandii - now when Sue starts on about the jungle in my house I can refer her to these photos!!!

Just a thought - is there fluorescent lighting in the kitchen? Might explain the flowers......

Yes, both the Orange and Lemon trees are grafted, Ziggy. They were going cheap but weren't in flower when I bought them. One of the reasons I didn't grow them from seed was because, as you said, it takes a few years before they would flower.:D

You're right, longk, in the Kitchen are two 6' fluorescent lights which are warm in tone. I suppose that could be a factor, an interesting thought.:D:scratch: Actually, the overspill isn't as bad as last years, that would have made Sue blink:heehee:

Thanks, JWK, but I'm just bumbling along in the hope that, eventually, I get something right:D:heehee:

Just as a matter of interest, the Orange tree did bear fruit this year which is why it surprises me to see it flowering again so soon. The Lemon tree also bore fruit, as you can see, and that is also flowering. I've been told the Lemon fruit can take up to 18 months to ripen...............ideas on that?.

Nope, you definitely need a conservatory and then you could do this:

And that was at the end of November before the Dahlias and Cannas were lifted, and before several visits to nurseries with Winter Sales on that resulted in a boot-full of plants each!

P.S. Sorry about the mess !

The only reason why my wife and I decided not to have a Conservatory, Kristen, was because we didn't want to give up one inch of soil from the garden! Also if I was to do it now , in the way I would want, it would mean major plumbing and drainage work.:nono::nono: Naaaah!!, I'll keep my soil!:heehee::D

I'm impressed with all the care you lot take of your plants. :love30:

We try not to get anything non-hardy as everything we do have has to fend for itself. We don't have the time or energy to do much ather than maintain the garden. :(

That was my Rule Number One, based on the amount of time my Mother spent looking after things that wouldn't grow in our soil (Acid loving plants for example), and because she had millions of pots that needed watering every day I vowed never to have any pots ... I expect next year I'll be having lots of pots ... and then my Rule Number Two will have gone too.

Just thought people like to see, and anyone knowledgeable with Bananas would like to confirm, that I think is my Dwarf Cavendish Banana about to flower. It's been over wintered in my kitchen which is kept cool due to the fact that during the day, when I'm home, the kitchen door is kept open for the moggies to go back and forth. So I'm surprised that despite the cool conditions the Banana decided to flower:

So what's the verdict is it flowering!!!??:D
