I've done some loo-roll pots too (for Parsnips). Actually I rather prefer the paper pots - they can be any size you like, of course; the ones I made for Parsnips are about 2.5" D x 8" deep - I reckon that will help the parsnips in my heavy soil (provide them with decent soil to pretty push their full depth), and I think that size was a benefit for the Sweetcorn - lots of root growth room.

By comparison I question the benefit of "Root Trainers" that are a fraction of that depth

    I've added a Crop Update.

The sweetcorn in the greenhouse are just showing their Tassels on the cobs ...
First Tomato will be picked today
Cucumbers have resumed fruiting after a long delay ...
    Aubergines have set fruit ...
    Melons forming ...
Chilli "Hot Stuff" definitely not Hut Stuff :(
Sweet Peppers will be ready in a few days ...

Very good Kristen, all your hard work is now paying off. I expected your sweetcorn to go through the greenhouse roof, glad I'm wrong, they are doing really well in there and not going too mad.

I'm no expert on chillis but I think you have to wait for them to turn red before they get their hotness.

I sowed my tomatoes same date as you (15th feb) but none of mine are ripening yet :(

    Thanks all!

It has seemed that your Spring has been a fair bit colder than mine - which I would not have expected

For anyone who may be interested I have updated my blog. I've added an "Autumn 2010 Tour", if you find that useful please leave me a comment on the blog - its an experiment, and if no one finds it useful I won't bother to generate all the links next time!

It's great to see you back on here Kristen.

You have been busy since your last posting on 1st Oct 2009 !

Your Garden Extension is really ambitious, you are there for the long term.

And you got that Pergola up at last and a myriad of other things.

I don't know how you find the time to do all those things, it's like you are super human, but then I saw your Yew hedge, well never mind you are allowed to get one thing wrong :)

So nice to see you back Kristen - we have all missed you.

Looking at your blog - you have done so much, but there is still more to do.
