While watching last night's video, the skunk was enjoying its snack when two deer approached from from behind it. It did not even bother to look, it simply raised its tail and stamped its feet. That was enough to warn the deer not to come any closer. They gave it a wide berth and went behind the fence. The deer got no closer than what you can see in the image. Not too many critters will mess with a skunk.

Love it. Thank you for sharing as it is not anything I can witness ... except wildlife programmes on TV, although not as special as yours.

The drama never ceases, now little Twinkle is missing part of her left ear.

I just love seeing them stand erect, they look like miniature versions of big foot. :yikes:

@hydrogardener Have they been introduced or native?
We have Red Eared Sliders in parts of thr UK, illegally released as unwanted pets in the past.
They can survive the cold here but our Summers are not warm enough for them to breed so eventually they will die out.

Sorry for the delay, yes, they are introduced. I sent the photo to the New York State conservation department as I had never seen one before. We have an environmental center in Albany with several ponds. People release no longer wanted pet turtles into the ponds and the state is not happy about it. Our summers get pretty warm so it will breed if it can find a mate.

Shadow is just a shadow of her former self since becoming a mum. She looks thin, haggard, and just plain worn out. I have though not seen the kits yet, and, Rosie the fox I treated for mange has become a mum also. I only saw one kit on a grainy black and white image, but I have been trying every night to get a decent image of both sets of babies. Being a mum is HARD WORK!

The small tree is Witch-Hazel, native to this part of the country, but I have never seen one. I ordered three plants from a nursery, as I love the smell of Witch-Hazel, also, they have tiny yellow flowers in the winter. It is a medicinal plant, a leaf can be crushed and the juice rubbed on an insect bite and there are multiple other medicinal uses for the plant.

I always have a bottle of it. Great for many skin issues and I have used it safely on my cats. I too love the smell and doesn't put the cats off.

Looking forward to seeing the babes. :fingers crossed:

Shadow does look worn out but that's not surprising raising youngsters. It's good to hear that Rosie is a mum now too. :)
