when i used to work in the vets, the man who lived right nextdoor was forever ranting about people blocking his driveway (understandably so, it seemed most days a car was parked there) i went into work one morning to find everyone having a good old laugh  well apparently the bloke nextdoor finally lost the rag & walloped someone over the head with his umbrella :rofllol:i just wish i'd seen it but i missed it all by about 10 mins or so :cry3:

Its almost the exact opposite here - the school holidays are something of a free for all for roadoworks, which usually means that the first couple of weeks at least are utter mayhem until everyone gets used to where they are and work out how to avoid them.

When on the M4 near me Tuesday, signs up roadworks start Sept 16th for 12 weeks, they were closing a lane with bollards then, 10th, haven`t been that way since so don`t know if any works being done, or just sat there in preparation for the 16th.

      Hi All you moaners :catapult:

Latest one, I watched it last night the advert for a drink and they want people to knit a hat/beanie/bobble ? for the top of the bottle (fruit Juice) and then they will donate 25 pence to a UK Charity , what a waste of time and money as it will cost more than 25 pence to send in the post I remember Paul O'Grady had people sending in knitted hats for children abroad to keep them warm and they were well received and useful not like this nonsense.

      Anyone else seen the advert

      No Andy I haven't.
I am making Beanie hats for the Mission to Seafarers at the moment. It's a charitable organisation that supports lowly paid seamen all over the globe. I have just finished one and about to start another.

I saw those things on the bottles last year - complete waste of time and money; surely it would have been better to ask people to knit squares that could have been sown together to make blankets or something?

There is far too many 'gimmicky' things when it comes to fund raising nowadays, and to be honest it puts me off donating. I still support things like the British Legion, or Cancer Research but in cash donations when I see a tin and have the cash on me.

The only other thing I started to do recently was to give a monthly donation to the London Air Ambulance - I think of it like a cheap insurance policy; those ladies and gents do a fantastic job, and to my mind it should be an integrated funded part of the NHS and not reliant on charity; however, I would rather donate and have it continue, than not and see it go.

I've not seen the ad (I tend not to see ads even when I'm looking at the screen :heehee:) but donating to charity is a personal and quite contentious issue. I'm put off by gimmicky methods of trying to raise funds and, also, never respond to the dozens of charity requests that arrive in the mail. Although it obviously works or they wouldn't do it.

There are so many good causes that, many years ago, I decided to pick my charities and only give to them. Doing it that way gets them an extra 25% as I can donate through Gift Aid.

            My latest moan.

Over the period of several weeks I have observed a young girl of about 11/12 yrs deliberately dropping litter around the near by shopping precinct. She lives in a council house that is at the bottom of the precinct separated by a strip of grass.

An example of her behavior was the week before last, she came out of her house with a drinks bottle, she duly finished the contents and as she walked through the precinct, passed 4 litter bins, she chose to just toss the article on the floor, last week, she came out of her house with a chip wrapper that I think contained a pie, as she crossed the grassed area she withdrew the food and the A3 size wrapper was tossed on the floor !!!

To top it all off, yesterday, there was a bag of donations left outside the Charity shop that is on the precinct ( ok silly thing to do, but morals people), the little so and so, duly walked up in broad daylight, opened the bag and removed several items of clothing (even holding them up to get a good look) and the board game Operation ( I was just a few yards away). I of course said something like 'excuse me, you should not do that' to which I received the common reply reply of 'go forth and multiply' ! Before she calmly took them home.

Now, my next door neighbour ( the interfering but well intentioned guy) is secretary of the local NHW. As I was out in the back garden doing, I hear a Hi Steve from aforementioned. Great me thinks chance to have a word about said young lady ( I use the term lady, very loosely). Turns out that she is well known for all I have described, and I should put my observations in an e-mail and he will pass on to the relevant people. Although they have been trying for or a year or more to get something done about her, all that happens is they get a warning from the Environment chappie. I was advised that they need photographic evidence, well I'll be happy to take pictures of the litter, but if I was to take pictures of the young madam as well..... we all here, know some of the horror stories that can be falsely accused at people, especially MALES in their late forties.

So they will get my written evidence and that is all.

One might suggest a visit to her parent (s), but as the little devil, is often seen unwashed, dirty clothes etc... I am not sure that would help.

            Rant Over !

It is not just limited to the M25, Spruce.

Having been 'out on the road' for many years now (apart from my recent probs), I have observed many many instances, all over the country. I remember a YT video a while back , I think produced by South Wales Police, it was very, very graphic, and showed a person texting whilst driving on an A road (single carriage way ), they did not see a car pull out of a junction and when impact happened they were traveling so fast, they spun off the road and hit a Mum pushing her pram. The 3 other passengers in the car died at scene as did mum and baby. The driver survived.

It was pulled from TV as being TOO disturbing.

I think, this is the kind of public message that needs to be put out.

I work for different companies most of the time (agency worker) and always ask if they have hands free, if not I give them my mobile number, but state that I will not reply whilst I am driving and they will have to wait until it is safe for me to pull over and call back. Full Stop. No exceptions.

Just remembered, funniest (sic) instance, I was behind a Police car, displaying blues, and siren trying to pull over a guy in a car, who had been texting at 60 mph for at least 3 miles on the M1, in the outside lane!

              They live amongst us !!!

Not quite the same situation but a few years back we had a problem with someone putting their dustbin bags out too early and the foxes were dragging them on to the farm behind me and ripping them up, rubbish everywhere.

The farmer found out who it was, I watched him collect up all the rubbish and dump it back over the gate of the household responsable.

It's never happened again, so if you know where the girl's letter box is.......

You'd need a note to explain to the egg layer why it was happening. Daughter wouldn't own up.

While we're moaning, have I had a go about drivers who pull up in a traffic queue and then move forward a minute later?

Why can't they just pull up to the car in front in the first place??????????????????????????????????

I get really cross with people who sit ,handbrake on ,gears neutral, then wait for green to engage gears and remove the handbrake, I am in no way suggesting they should sprint away, but we all know sequences of lights and at least be prepared to move.
