Spruce, I hate to do this to you, but..... technically, if you were on the right hand side, then you were the one merging, which means the car on your left wasn't over/undertaking.
For example, locally to me, there is a three lane section of road that reduces to two and the onus to merge is upon the car that is in the offside lane (which makes it the car that is changing lane/direction):

However, having said that, I am only speaking in broad technical terms - in reality given the position you were in, the woman should have allowed you space to merge (this falls under the 'there to be seen' heading) - just because you were 'technically' the one changing lanes doesn't necessarily mean that she was in the right for not allowing you the room to do so safely.

And regardless, she lost any minicscule argument that she may have had the instant that she allowed her behaviour to become aggressive/confrontational. There is no excuse for arrogance on the road - ever.

I've never heard of anything coming from a Seagull and landing on the roof of a car being called a "Thump" before???!!!
