        Aah... the joys of a warm sunny Sunday afternoon.

        The smell of burning meat wafting on the breeze, the screaming and shouting from the kids party two doors down, and to top it all off, the kn*b just down the road who decided to spend an hour using a very loud power sander in his garden at about 7-30 this evening. :mad:

          It's posts like these that remind me why I love having no immediate neighbours. I so feel for you @Trunky:grphg: as I remember only too well the joys of having student neighbours for a few years when I lived in Edinburgh. Their idea of suitable hours to be wide awake and playing ALL the latest hits and mine when I was working full time were polls apart. I'm so lucky these days as the only "noise" we've had during this gorgeous day has been lambs bleating for their mums.

            Oh lord! @Trunky :grphg: sounds like a blinking nightmare :thud:. At our old house we had the neighbours from hell 2 doors down :gaah: he didn't know how to speak properly, every other word was 'F' & he made so much noise, that mixed in with the kids playing two lots of different music at full blast & the fish wife, wife was all a bit too much for me, fortunately they moved which cause the parking problems (I've told you that tale before). I do hope the jerk who lives down the road doesn't make loads of noise next weekend & the kids learn to be quiet! I do feel your frustration & sympathise :grphg:

              My moan is only a little one compared to yours - but I'm going to moan anyway :heehee:

              The dustmen didn't collect our rubbish (non-recyclable) last week. When I phone to complain they said the bin wasn't put out. :mad: If they'd have said 'sorry we missed it' I wouldn't have minded and they would have come back a day or so later to get it.

              Instead, I have now made an official complaint ('under dispute') on two points. One is that they didn't collect it and I don't want to wait two weeks and the other because I'm offended by them lying about it.

                  @Jiffy I agree.

                  I had a problem again this year with the gas heater in the greenhouse cutting out when the central heating in the house came on. It was fighting for fuel and losing the battle. I asked the gas people about the pressure situation - I mean really - if I can't run a little gas heater at the same time as the furnace what would happen if I had a gas range and was using the gas fireplace? They said nope - no problems in my area...

                  Then they needed to replace the gas meter saying the old one was obsolete. The new one has reduces the line diameter from the mains, feeds into a pancake type receptacle and then back out into the house. Not one problem with the heater after that. ...

                  Yup, again @Jiffy you're right. Why didn't they just fess up when fixing it... sheesh...

                    @shiney, Oh Lord! Dam bins! I feel your pain! Our bin collection has been changed we have three bins, a blue one for recycling plastics, cardboard & paper,, a black one for General rubbish??? & a brown one for garden waste/pet bedding & compostable kitchen waste.....so that straight forward isn't? (Glass has to be taken to the bottle bank) all of these bins are free of charge, we can also use the tip for free :dbgrtmb:, so why do I have a problem?? Well, the brown bin now costs £40 extra per year, which we are happy to pay however you can't put compostable kitchen waste or pet bedding into it? The black bin which goes to landfill now has compostable food waste & pet bedding in it! The blue bin is still for plastics/cardboard & paper, if you take rubble to the tip it's at a cost of £4 per bag, oh & one more change your bin has to be clearly marked with your house number (I was told I could buy a number from poundland, except we have a house name & they don't have letters in our poundland) I'm more than happy to pay extra to have my brown garden rubbish taken, but why can't I put pet bedding into the bin, it's only straw :scratch: oh & poo! Where's the sense in filling up landfill with compostable waste? Am I missing something? :scratch:

                      @Beckie76 That's all ridiculous :doh:

                      What is the brown bin for you is a green bin for us (seems more appropriate to put greenish things such as weeds into a green bin). There was a move to put a charge on the green bin but when they experimented with having to pay for plastic bags, at £1 each, for it they found thousands of black plastic bags full of garden waste dumped all over the roadsides.

                      Our collections are very good (most of the time) - black bin for general, non-recyclable, rubbish, green bin (recyclable green waste including all waste foodstuffs), clear bags for paper, plastic and metal and a blue box for glass. All free - as is the tip. :blue thumb:

                      I've received a message that my complaint has been 'escalated up' (why can't they use proper English? :doh:) to the waste control manager. The waste control manager lives 25 miles away but comes to our Open Garden :whistle: but I don't think that will have much influence on her decision ;)

                        I am looking after someone's house while they are living it up in the South of France and duly put out the right bins two weeks ago. Later on in the day went down to water the greenhouse and put away the bins only to find the one containing the bottles tins etc hadn't been emptied neither had their next door neighbours or one of the ones along the road but everyone else's had been emptied:scratch:

                        Anyway,came back from a week away on Sunday so went back to put the bin back out ready for Monday morning.Guess what,they have ignored the bin again plus the others that they missed last time so now have had to sort out the number to ring up the council at my own expense to ask why the bins are being ignored and could they please waste even more money by sending a lorry back up to our village to empty the bins,plus I now have to go back to the house to bring the bin back round to the front as I moved it to allow mums with pushchairs/prams etc to get past so they don't have to walk out into the road to get round the Wheelie bin:gaah:
