@shiney, their definition of compact....when the bin is put on the lorry & doesn't empty, that's ok but the bin hadn't been moved so it hadn't been put on the lorry! But I put the bin on its side to check & fork it & the grass cuttings fell out, I still forked it because I said I would, but it wasn't compact.
The way I see this is very black & white...I've paid for a service & as long as I'm not taking advantage by over filling the bin, making it too heavy or putting incorrect rubbish in the bin I really cannot see a problem! lets hope the bin is now collected or I shall be driving the bin to the council so the operations manager can inspect it & tell me what's wrong! :snorky:

It's an oxymoron that they refuse to take the bin because it's too compacted if they haven't tried to empty it!

These are the type of telephone conversations I love to have with authorities. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Our moan is that Mr Kandy retired at the start of this month.According to the pension people when he was sorting it all out his pension and lump sum that he is due to get after 25 years of paying into it was due to be paid into his bank account this week.Guess what, nothing has been paid in so he duly gets on the phone to them and after being made to hang on for a few minutes the lady came back and said due to an error on is ex employers part no money has been paid in but they will be paying him two months money in late June (arrrrgh smiley) and his lump sum should be paid into his account sometime over the next ten days:fingers crossed:.

Good job we have a little bit saved up as this just isn't on as we still have the same bills being paid out of our account every month and at least the State pension has gone in but he is having to wait longer for the pension he worked hard for, plus if we think about it they are gaining interest on the monies they are holding back and we are losing out (grrrr smiley)

Well I'm not sure I'd classify them as arrogant really. Of course there is arrogance on the road, but I don't think it is confined to any one type of vehicle or gender/age of driver. I don't really care what kind of vehicle people drive as long as they can drive it properly and safely and don't endanger others. Sadly some people choose a car seemingly solely based on fashion or as some sort of status symbol (don't know who they think is impressed though :snork:) without thinking if it is within the driving abilities or not.

I'll get me coat now on this one.

Oh and while I'm here, people who constantly chew gum especially those with the wide open gob technique and high volume sound effects. Especially when they are talking to me. Ugh revolting habit.

I agree about open mouthed chewing anything. It makes people look like human garberaters. But, if I am on a long trip I will indulge in some gum chewing because it takes away my thirst and that way I can drive longer distances without taking a break for liquids in, or out.... :snorky:

Oh, and I always put the used gum back in the wrapper and put it in the garbage. (my bed doesn't have posts :) ) I do get irritated when I see the stuff on the ground. Yuk...

Hi @wiseowl and @Beckie76, it is stressful especially as he got it sorted in time although he wasn't told until some months ago that none of it is done automatically through where he worked it was up to him to let them know when he was leaving and to get in contact with the pension people who deal with these things.Evedently there was a form that should have been sent by his employers to the pension people and then when they did receive it there was a query so although Mr Kandy was given a date when the monies would be paid in,it didn't happen and no one had the brains to contact him to let him know there had been a problem and that it was being put right:th scifD36:

@wiseowl i had/have relations that haven't worked for years due to heart problems and mental issues and got all the benefits while me and Mr K worked a long time so I know what you mean.We never got a thing from the state, but he does enjoy the free prescriptions and from August I shall get mine although have to wait until I am 66 before I get my free bus pass and yes Tax has to be paid on Mr Kandys pensions and he already has had his tax code sent him,so at least someone is on the ball:snorky:

@Beckie76 so sorry to hear about what happened to your uncle and hope that it all worked out for him in the end:paladin:

That reminded me of a street in Athens. Its lined on either side with orange trees, that I used to refer to as Gum Trees. They have a custom of sicking used chewing gum to them. Its in the embassy quarter, so I guess it must be politicians that came up with the idea. They didnt like it sticking to their shoes!:snork:

The trouble is that grass cuttings will settle in a heap or a bin with a lower compressed portion from the weight of the higher portion, but that is a law of nature not the deliberate act of the person putting the grass into a bin. From my experience if this had gone to Court the Judge would be defining compaction as compression by deliberate "mechanical" pressure being applied, [such as standing on it or using hands etc] to reduce the original mass.
Now I'm not knocking the Refuse Collection Operators but I believe the average wage/salary of them, without bonuses, is around £26,000. If there is a bonus scheme then they can earn around £45,000. Their agreed working hours are for a 37 hour week, but it is reckoned that the actual working week is more like 24 hours. For that kind of money then I would think that employers and customers would received a higher commitment and service than is being received from some RCO's. There seems to be a classic "them and us" hostile relationship between RCO's and the Rate Payers. Possibly one of the reasons for that is the Council issuing dictates to the residents about what goes where which tends to encourage "jobsworth" and a pedantic attitude from the RCO's.
I have to say, in defence, of our RCO's that since the "dust up" some years ago between the Rate Payers and those "jobsworth" refuse staff using every rule and regulation to minimise their collections, that we have never had any problems since and there were occasions when even I questioned the weight of the bin and wondered whether or not it would be emptied......but it has.:ouch1::snorky:

That's merely a back door method of raising your rates without it being counted as one. I'd vote for the party that wasn't in power in your council next time!!:snorky:
