I am going to blow my top soon with stupid relatives..:gaah:

As some of you know my late Father In Law was a bit or an extream hoarder so me Mr Kandy his sister and her son have been trying to clear out the cars, and other junk he collected over 66 years until he got too old to collect any more:snork:

Anyway,so far we have managed to get rid of Mr Kandys old Ford Pop,2 Minis and 3 old Ford cars which have now gone for scrap:yay:

On Sunday morning we picked up Mr Kandys sister and spent three hours shifting a lot of this old wood ready for hiring a skip to dispose of it.The last few days, Mr Kandys sister has been ringing round local skip hire companies to see what prices they charge. One company I liked have bright pink skips but alas they can't come to the garage as it is too far:sad:

Anyway she is trying to sort out another company to get one of those Ro Ro(roll on roll off) skips and she reckons a 40 yard one should be about the right size for what we have to shift. She is thinking that we can go very early Thursday morning and work through to tea time and then the company comes and takes the skip away:mute: This woman has a few screws loose as there is so much wood to shift plus some old walnut trees out in the back stable that it will take a team of at least ten people days and days to move all this wood. And this is with me going for my pre op assessment tomorrow ready for my op next Tuesday. My blood pressure is going to go through the roof with all the stress of this but my sister in law wants us to do it as she knows we will work hard to fill the skip as she is too frail to do a lot of lifting... PS with all the photos I am taking of all this crap I am thinking of writing a book about it all to warn others of the dangers of hoarding or perhaps write a blog and make some money out of it:mute:

@Kandy I recently had to finish cleaning out my friend's place and he was a hoarder. 2 years ago when he was moved to long term care I cleared out the actual rubbish. Filled nine dumpster bins full. The place was so bad that once I got the rubbish out, I was surprised to discover that one of the rooms had a 4' high by 11' wide window.

He died a few months ago and the task was left to me to clear out the rest. Took two weeks to do it.

I have now been sifting through my own possessions to make sure I'm not keeping things I no longer use. I do NOT want my kids to go through what I did with my friend's place.

My heart goes out to you. I believe after all of the lifting and hauling, I am now starting to take on the look of a lady wrestler. A winning lady wrestler, mind you.

@CanadianLori sorry to hear about your friend and that you had the task of clearing out his home,it is no joke and they just don't realise that no one on the planet needs umpteen net bags of bailing twine,or tins and tins of nuts and bolts.

We have already started giving away to charity shops a lot of the stuff we have up in the loft, our main collections are books that we tend to buy but never get round to reading, well apart from Mr Kandy that is :snorky:

Mr Kandys sister is a hoarder and you can move in her house for all the stuff. She has every calendar she has bought since she got married 38 years ago and it also includes the calendars that she has bought to track her kids lives even though they no longer live at home,so every year she has four calendars on the kitchen wall. I have read stories of people being buried under boxes of stuff that has fallen on them and killed them and they haven't been found for weeks:sad:

Anyway,Mr Kandy has persuaded his sister to leave the skip until after next week when he can spend more time away from looking after me but he is going over to his dad's on Saturday to help cut up some of the wood into mangageable lengths.:snorky:

Put the wood on Freecycle and somebody will collect FOC for use in their woodburner.

Car completely died on me :cry3: going to pick up a few bits from town after about 2/3 miles a warning pops up stating "battery or electricity supply faulty", battery light comes on.. drive another mile down the road get to a roundabout, about to pull off and it coughs splutters and comes to a stop.

Phoned RAC , my cover run out in Dec when I renewed my policy with Tesco.. I assumed I would have been covered as the last policy with them included breakdown cover.. £109 for call out or £129 to join. Kiss my ar$e

Call my sister as I can't get hold of my dad (knew he had a day off) tell her "My battery has died. Bring dad and jump leads" 15 mins later they turn up, no jump leads. :wallbanging:

Sister stays with the car, me and dad go to the garage and one of the boys says he'll follow us down in 5 mins with a battery pack. Awesome.

Car gets started and the boy drives behind me on the quiet roads, less than a mile along battery warning pops up- battery light come on, turn a corner abs faulty, esp faulty, ars faulty, tyre puncture(?!), reverse light faulty.. (I get these popping up every 5 seconds on the drive back to the garage) pulls in by garage, power steering has failed.

Mot due by 13 April and my clutch has been slipping for few weeks (2 months ), the bloke who normally fixes my shed says prob alternator and something else...:money: :hmmm2:

Just went to the garage to pick up the car.. told him it needs MOT soon and about clutch when it was dropped off earlier..not good news really.

Alternator, clutch is knackered found out master cylinder was replaced last time not clutch, driver side coil is snapped (other one was snapped last year), 2 front brake discs (was advisory last year), he took it for a run thinks the gear box is going and he said I haven't even gone through lights etc for MOT. Roughly £1200+ without gearbox.

I said how much for today.. he said nothing! Hes been through my account and said you've spent so much on this every year... What a bloke! He said bring it back up tomorrow to put my battery back in and he'll see what he can get for it. Car-less for a few weeks :(

Moral of the story - shouldn't have bought a Peugeot 207 1.6 hdi gt. I'll be on the what car next thread soon enough!

@Linz Sorry to hear about your car problems.

Pity you don't live nearer us otherwise you could have come and looked at Mrs Shiney's car. She's ordered a new one and we shall have to get rid of the old one. A volvoS40 red. I think she only wants £150-£200 for it. It's 17 years old, still only done somewhere in the 40,000 miles (she doesn't do 3,000 miles a year), one little old lady owner :heehee: :runforhills:, full service record, excellent runner but a number of scrapes and dents on the body (hit by a deer, and a few knocks given to it in car parks). The paintwork has faded on bonnet, roof and boot.

We're just about to spread the word on it. New car should arrive sometime in April :fingers crossed:

@shiney Mr Kandy just said that the older red cars were notorious for having the colour fade over the years although he says that the fading isn't as bad on the newer cars. I am surprised she didn't trade in the old one when you ordered the new one as it would have gone off to Auction like mine did:scratch:

@Linz sorry to hear about your car troubles and hope you get it sorted soon and you can get back on the road with a decent car:grphg:

@Scrungee the village where the wood is is a bit posh and I don't think 90% of the youngsters who live there would even consider Freecycle as they all live in expensive houses and work down in the city and the older generation are too old to be interested in Free stuff like wood.

A lot of the wood has been exposed to the elements because the building it was stored in is falling down, and the rest of the wood is so old it has dried out so is light as a feather or riddled with woodworm.I chucked a few bits across the garage and as it hit the floor it just exploded in to dust. There is only a small portion of it that is any use to anyone when they can get to it as it is underneath other stuff that needs getting rid of.The whole place is practically falling down and I hate it when we have to go over there especially when it is windy. It all needs clearing so that the garage plus land it stands on can be got rid of some time in the future,if we live that long as we are finding it quiet exhausting. If it was my place I would pay someone to come in and clear it all but it is not mine and any suggestions I make about things gets dismissed so I tend to just bite my tongue and let folk get on with it:mute:

Ah he is a gem of a mechanic @"M" , will have to buy him a crate of good stuff for the help he's given me! He said he would keep an eye out for a new car for me too.

Thank you for the thought @shiney it is tempting to take the trip!

Cheers @Kandy fingers crossed eh! Sounds like a bit of nightmare what you dealing with too atm :grphg:

@Kandy I shall be asking them but I know they won't offer much for it as they have already knocked £7,000 of the price of the new car. When I was talking to other garages (whilst doing my wheeler dealing :snork:) they offered between £100 and £200 and said they only send cars like that to the scrap yard because it's not worth them bothering to try and sell them.

Try getting some white cotton gloves, and good natural lotion to put on with gloves for overnight.

I am always washing hands too, have lotion bottles in a few places, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, office (at work) and my car.

@Kandy and @CanadianLori , my husband went through that cleaning out stuff with first his Grandmother (about 12 years ago) and his parents about 7 years ago. He has 3 other adult siblings. So I stay out of it, best all around, and his time and his sister's time (she does not work) is more flexible than mine. Anyway, first observation after his grandmother died was the vulture behavior. I just sat back and watched. Then the parents passing (his dad last) so the adults took what they wanted. Then husbands job was to load up stuff to take to various auction houses aimed at that type of stuff. If I recall right, whatever money he got, it was his. I found it unusual that his sister wanted none of her mother's jewelry. We still to this day, have the whole living room furniture in our basement from his parents house, cannot stand it, but as the basement is not finished yet, I can ignore it. One nice thing for me, was I discovered that his grandmother's china couples well with mine in that eclectic combo look and totally by accident---no one had wanted it, I paid no attention to what boxes were moved to the basement from her house, then opened one, said to myself--why not, so been using them for the last 10 years.

When I worked in the nursing home business (20 years) came across lots of children having to clean out parents home, some just put it all to the curb. some were wise and called a company to give them $$$ for the stuff. Some (like my husband) who knows antiques etc. considered objects for $$ to make etc.

Its a shame, I have heard of wonderful pieces just being tossed, to late from children.
