I think different people react to such circumstances in different ways, Redstar. Perhaps, she has had other peoples and families emotions to deal with and your expected note has taken a lower priority as in such a situation time and days seem to blur. The fact that she actually told you just how much she enjoyed your company and hospitality might serve as compensation for the present time. Even if you don't get the promised note I don't think it's a reflection on her gratitude and appreciation, more of a reflection of her state of mind in losing her Father.:coffee:

This is what I put up with every summer..

      20170902_192421.jpg

And it's spreading to behind my back fence..

Is it wrong that I'm praying for it to come behind my garden?

I get that, that is why I did not think about it till now. I will again push it back in my mind. But it will surface again in a few months. And its her father-in-law that passed. The husband's father, he is one of 4 siblings. Not to discount her feelings for her father-in-law, not sure what those are. Looking forward to seeing a note from her, whenever it arrives.

And, you have an issue because???? We burn over here. We all burn over here. We all try not to on really windy days, just wanting the smoke to go straight up not drift right or left to a neighbor . but is the plight of having wooded properties, we have continuous burn piles ready to gas up and match it. boom.

We are not allowed to have open fires over here. Yes, some farmers can but not individual home owners. A fire must be contained in a ring or barrel or whatever and even those are closely monitored.

I am always so amazed when I see that this is the norm everywhere but here.... then again, we also don't have any traveller issues or squatters either. Thinking because they wouldn't be allowed to make their hobo soup or whatever?:dunno:

Here in the UK there are rules but no Laws. But there are Laws regarding the nuisance the fire can cause.............

              "Burning domestic waste
You can’t get rid of household waste if it will cause pollution or harm people’s health. This includes burning it.

You can get rid of household or garden waste by composting or recycling it. Contact your local council to find out how to dispose of garden waste and about recycling in your area.

              Danger to traffic by smoke
You could be fined if you light a fire and you allow the smoke to drift across the road and become a danger to traffic.

              Complain about a neighbour’s bonfire
Your council can issue an ‘abatement notice’ if a neighbour’s bonfire is causing a nuisance. A bonfire must happen frequently to be considered a nuisance.

Your neighbour can be fined up to £5,000 if they don’t stick to the notice."

I have one of these approximately every month - except when the field is ready for harvesting.

But I do wait until evening.

My issues are; we live in a built up area unlike you.. It's windy, the smell is obnoxious. They do not burn copious amounts of wood..they burn household waste including pressurised containers, dining chairs, rugs, lawn mowers, wardrobes.. and on network rails land. Not their own. They don't inform anyone they're having a fire.. and that close to my garden is pretty much sticking fingers up at us.

@ARMANDII Is spot on.. It's a nuisance.. I've looked into it before, I'm well within my rights to complain.

Sorry for you @Linz , your pictures posted left much to the imagination. Can't tell from them closeness of others etc. My fires are a lot like Shiney's fires every other month. Its only branches, limbs, etc. pruned things, etc. and the once in a while yellow jacket hive. Yep fortunate to live far enough from folks. Sometime in the evening we can see other fires going through the woods.
We also don't have any traveller issues or squatters either. Thinking because they wouldn't be allowed to make their hobo soup or whatever.

@Linz Sorry you're having so much trouble. :grphg: Have you spoken to Network Rail about it? Or the Council? One of them should be able to stop it.

I suppose that Network Rail won't be much bothered and might need quite a bit of pushing about it. The same problem will occur with the Council (I can see them saying that they can't be sure who is setting the fires). Both situations can be overcome but it takes a lot of effort to force them to do anything. Quoting the law certainly helps but it needs to be done at the right time. :noidea:
