Left the watering can outside the van, thought I heard it fall over early in the morning, but no, it's gone completely missing :th scifD36:

It wasn't Simon that moved it, just checked, an Sis is away at the moment.

Friend's dogs started barking around dawn several weeks ago, and got up to see a van driving off and all the scrap they were going to weigh in gone from their driveway, and the police didn't want to get involved even though they had it's registration. Luckily, the 6m long scaffold pole they'd put outside for me was still there (for giant sunflower growing next year).

I understand that it's a deal between the two countries as Australia has taken Central America refugees from the USA.

Info re size:- Oz is about 75% the size of the USA but 35% of that is classified as desert and another 35% is classified as arid or semi-arid. So there's not much a comparison in usable land.

I think this is what the plaque on the Statue of Liberty says, (and I admire the USA for its sentiment):-
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
                  With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

I'm old enough :old: to remember when the increase in population and influx of refugees was not a problem in the USA, with a population of around 140m. Now it's around 325m - an increase of approx. 230%

In the same period the population of Oz has increased by 374%

You can do anything with statistics! :loll: They're perfectly accurate but doesn't even start to show the actual situation.

When Oscar the cat (we considered him human) moved into Shineyland the population grew by 50% in one day!! :rolleyespink:

Actually, I got the "real" scope from an Aussie friend who lives there. The Aussie people would have loved to keep the people who survive on that horrid island. And there is plenty of room, and the people protested to keep them there. however the PM does not want any "Boat" people. But there is a trade for the illegal Mexican people from USA that is happening. This agreement was made by Obama, NOT Trump. (so be that clear). Trump thinks this is a dumb solution. (and it is). And the Queen oversees the PM, so she is in on this dumb solution and the horrid way of keeping humans on such a substandard island, no running water etc. My friend also says there are plenty of vacant home in areas and farms that need worked, they do need the people there. So if they are swapping their 2,000 "boat" people for our people, its still the same number of people that Australia will need to "process".

I agree that it's a swap and a silly agreement just to be able to fulfil the 'no boat people' policy - but that's politics! :wallbanging: It was an agreement made between the governments of two countries. Who happens to be in charge has little effect on things like that unless a new law or agreement is enacted.

                        Just to correct one point:-
The Queen doesn't oversee the PM or have any control. It is purely a titular role. She is not allowed to get involved in politics. The PM of Oz does exactly what he likes and we have no say in the matter - neither the Queen nor our parliament.

                          OK, with your Queen info.

So now the swap, one group is valued over the other group according to Aussie folks. Sickening. And the way they are being kept--horrid.

My second Aussie friend responded. The same as the first. Both are upset with the situation.

I recall years ago Aussies taking a bunch of prisoners that ---England did not want. So there you go.
