Husband--showing me his diamond watch and a small diamond missing. I say, yep, its missing, I got you that watch for our 10th wedding anniversary. He says, wow how can you remember things like that so quickly and you cannot remember that that jacket on the chair is mine. I say to him----lets see---purchase of a diamond watch versus a everyday barn coat. p.s. his brother had just visited and his brother forgets things

I was at a meeting yesterday. The village hall has a car park and the road that runs through it also goes to a dead end at some bungalows. Alongside the road is a public footpath. As the road and footpath are in poor condition the village hall is proposing to resurface both (total cost over 20k :rolleyespink: as the road is concrete and breaking up in places - footpath is tarmac and in very poor condition).

The village hall can't afford the full amount and, being a charity, can apply for grants. A few small grants have already been offered and an application for a large grant from the local authority has been put in.

The local authority has turned down the application because resurfacing the footpath is included. So a further application has been put in but leaving out any repair to the footpath. They have been told that the application will be granted - subject to budget!

So, the hall was going to resurface the path that the authority is responsible for, and it would save the authority the time and cost of it. Instead it will now not be done and it will be down to the authority to do it, and pay for it, at some time in the near future (it's becoming dangerous). :hate-shocked:

How stupid can they get?

              Hmm, that's interesting!
Could it be because the local authority want to tender a grant application of their own for the footpath (perhaps a little over the odds? )?
Or, could it be down to some sort of H&S/insurance small print? :dunno:
It's a curious one for sure!

Even more curious is that we spent five years trying to find out who was responsible for the footpath. Parish Council, District Council and County Council all denied responsibility and blamed the other two. Land registry couldn't help but I finally found out which one it was by sending letters to all of them saying that I was going to dig sections out of it and turn them into flower beds. :rasp:

Bet they stopped you doing that too, huh? Their grant application for putting in flower beds is clearly still being processed ;)

People who respond, negatively or smarty pants style, too quickly to posts without grasping the message's intention.....yup, agree or disagree but for heavens sake, take a moment to understand what is related.

And no matter what level of literacy or typing skills of the poster.... quit the troll action. Really, you got to pick on typos or grammar error?

And people who litter/dominate forums and overpower current members through barrages of postings...none of which contribute to the fun of sharing knowledge and comraderie within the community.

Read twice, reply once please and then if there is a misunderstanding or nasty disagreement we can put it down to Newcastle Brown :)

and that goes for reading phone texts also. my brother-in-law recently greatly annoyed me, and insulted me with a stupid reply. but as he is related to my husband I can understand.

Tis the season for my husband and I to have arguments over the temp of the house. He wants it hotter, I want is cooler, he wants windows closed, I want some open, ( a little). He wants it at 75 degrees, I want it at 71 degrees (day time) and I want 64 degrees when we sleep. He wants it 72 when we sleep. And I am compromising with my numbers. would want it colder.

Sometimes I call my next door neighbors . 75 year old couple, and my best friend. and will ask her, "did you turn your furnace on?" she will say, why no, and our windows are open. So I know its him and not me.
