I have changed our insurers almost every year. We have our house and contents and both our cars come up for renewal at the same time - by design. When I receive our renewal notices I shop around, by phone, after having had a quick look round on the net. I tell them that they can have all four insurances if they give me a good enough quote. (Can't do that on the net.)

Even with changing companies I don't have to send any documentation. Apparently, they get it from the previous company :noidea:. Last year I got our car insurance down to £171 for Mrs S. and £221 for myself. Both are Volvo's - mine is bigger  :heehee:. Fully comp., no claims protection, replacement car if ours are of the road due to accidents etc. Over fifty years of driving with just two minor claims tends to help  - plus talking the hind legs off a donkey when speaking to them :rasp:

I rang the Insurance Company today and explained the difference in their quote on the Net and the one they had sent me in the mail. So they checked and agreed there was a difference and came up with another quote that was higher than the Net quote. I pointed that out to them so they revised their quote to the Net quote.
Now I always add on car rescue to the policy as it is alway seem to be cheaper than joining Breakdown organisations directly. This time the Insurance company quoted me the same breakdown service I've always had with them........only this time at more than twice the price. Again, I pointed the fact out to them and that other Insurance companies were quoting over half the price they were quoting for the same breakdown service. That brought a silence and then "So you don't want the breakdown service?". My reply was "not at that price as with the quote for the basic car insurance that brings it to just £12 of the original quote [which was without the addition of the car breakdown service]" Another silence, "So you don't want the breakdown service?". My reply "No, and not the insurance quote either, so I'll go elsewhere where I can get the same service a lot cheaper" I'd already got quotes from 3 other companies where the comprehensive cover was slightly less than last years premium and with the same breakdown service added it was still cheaper by a few pounds. There was a change of tone in the voice "Oh, you'll leave the Company?, just a minute" and then silence. A minute late I was offered the same comprehensive service that I already have, including the same breakdown service, at last years premium:dunno::doh: I've taken it because when the car was hit in the rear by a guy who professed he didn't have to look right when coming off a slip road onto a main road, the Insurance company had a replacement car to me the same day, had it repaired to beyond expectations and delivered back to me on a trailer. But I'm reluctant in staying with a company that quotes over the odds for the premium every year, so maybe I'll go for another company next ;year.:coffee::snorky:

Last year I forgot to add commuting, I phoned them up to add it best safe than sorry, I was expecting to be paying more, it came down £12, how that works I will never know :dunno:

They base it on their statistics of where you live (how bad the commuting accidents in the area are) and on the fact that if you commute you are working and not out driving the car all day. :)

If you use the car for going to clients etc. then the premiums would soar. There's a fine line between them if your company has a number of offices and you have to drive to more than one of them. If you 'only drive to the office' ;) then you're OK, as that's commuting. :heehee:

Most insurances don't put any significance upon using the car for driving to and from work.

What does save a lot of money on insurance is if you give the correct mileage (to nearest 1,000) that you do in a year. e.g. For most insurance companies there is a considerable saving if you are able to say that you do 8,000 miles and not 10,000 miles. You have to be fairly accurate, of course, but a lot of people just pull a figure off the top of their heads. When I dropped my mileage (always give them accurate figures as they can get it from MOT records), when I retired, it saved over 10% of the premium. :dbgrtmb:

                  Awesome news @"M" :blue thumb:

I have had the same insurer/same car for the last 5 years now, they send the renewal out and it's roughly £150 more each time, I check on comparison websites and said company are the cheapest and its normally £50 less than what I was paying previously!?

My moan is electric companies.. was with one supplier, had loads of problems.. faulty meter and no display to give readings, booked for new one, they cancelled jobbie had to ring up and ask where engineer was said it wasn't booked.. this went on from May - Aug, nothing got resolved so left them, been given an estimated final bill which was beyond belief, went to OFGEM to sort it out for me and received an actual final bill and a 6 Guarantee of Service payments and ended up £92 in credit.. yay! But.. the new company (which gave me the new meter I desperately needed for meter readings) I switched to went bust after 2 weeks of me being with them so I've switched again and been given another bloody estimated final bill!! Oh and have calculated my annual ESTIMATED usage as 12997kwh.. I think not!! Hoping new supplier is much better than the last 2

I have a similar issue when drivers have their lights on but have to stop for any period of time but keep their feet on the brake pedal. If you are stopped behind them, those bliddy red lights are right in your face! Grr!

Well, the insurance company does know that I travel to Birmingham, Manchester and Chester 3 days a week depending on where the Judges want me or where I think I should be. But, to give the Insurance Company credit, they didn't raise the premium over 3 years ago when I got dragged back to the grindstone.:coffee:

We are finding some of the bike lights that cyclists have on the front and back of their bikes rather too powerful and they can be quiet blinding when we are out walking even in the daylight.I know they need to be seen but we would like to be able to see also without having either red or white lights in our faces:sad:

Blimey these internet warriors are quite something! I asked what I thought was a pretty polite question to an Ebay seller about the variety of a plant they were selling. Funnily enough the reply confirmed it was not the variety I wanted and included a rude insinuation to boot. I went back and said I wasn't quite sure why they had replied in such an aggresive manner as all I was doing was making sure I didn't buy the wrong thing. His reply to me was a physical impossibilty in my case as I being female don't have 1:):snorky::). Suffice to say I will NOT be buying from this seller who admittedly has good feedback but maybe the buyers don't know a Daffodil from a Dahlia. Whatever his feedback I'd give him 0% for customer service! Beware of
