I, also, rarely go to our surgery and then I usually ask for an appointment with one of the practice nurses. The receptionists no longer ask me what is wrong with me :heehee:. I always told them politely to mind their own business.

Mrs Shiney is not so polite :yikes: :snorky:. She also has studied some specific branches of medicine, is qualified in 14 different Complementary Therapies, has two degrees and a post grad and a wall full of qualifications, teaches some therapies and although she is officially retired still has some patients coming to see her.

The surgery have got used to her telling them off if they're not correct and asked her to be on their Patients' Panel.

Her last run in with them was in 2016 when they had a new doctor join the practice and take over the diabetes clinic. The first thing she did when seeing Mrs Shiney was to change her medication - or try to. When Mrs Shiney asked her why she was changing it the answer was 'that's the drug we always used in my last practice'! :th scifD36: - which didn't go down very well with Mrs Shiney . When she asked the doctor whether it was a better one to take and, if so, why? She answered that it was just the one she knew more about. Mrs S then pointed out that if she had studied the BNF (British National Formulary - the book that explains all about each drug and its side effects) she would find that the drug she was recommending required the patient to test their blood every time they were going to drive a car!!! The drug that she was taking was almost identical but didn't require the blood test. She now prescribes the one Mrs S was having. :blue thumb:

Have you seen how much paint brushes are in B&Q? I nearly fell over when I saw the price this morning - what a rip off :mute:

Go there to buy paint and get ripped off for paint brushes.

The price of paint is a rip off IMO.
Most of it is just a watery mess these days, cant get proper paint anymore.

Brand name paint like Dulux is specially put together for big chain stores like B&Q, so it's not the best quality. Buy it from elsewhere and you will get the proper/best mix that the brand provides.

Wickes paint used to be good as it was made by Johnstones. Not any more sadly. The last lot of paint I got from Wickes was worse than terrible.

Just a slight complaint with a cheer at the end. :)

As I try to cut down on 'naughty' foods I do my best to keep off crisps, which I really like. :noidea: I only like unflavoured crisps and ones that are not too salty and only buy them when we are entertaining (use them for nibbles). So I have been buying Tyrrell's lightly salted as they only have .5g per 100g. Most other makes range from .8g to 1g per 100g. As we were having guests at the weekend I went to buy my usual crisps and saw that they are now 8g per 100g - an increase of 60%.

So I emailed them to complain - who would have thought I would do such a thing?

They have replied saying that customer research has shown they prefer more salt and then told me that they make crisps with no salt at all. I replied that they don't sell them in any supermarket near us and they have told me that they will send me some. :blue thumb:

Hmmm. The debate about salt's veracity are confusing.

Perhaps we need to study the difference between eating salt water fish to fresh.

Salt promotes water retention but what else does it do... other than being a nice chip topping :)

My grumble is that I won't be able to buy anything at Shineyland. Can't smuggle anything home ....

I took a letter into the surgery today on behalf of my daughter (52). Yet another new receptionist complete with child perhaps her daughter.
Hello, Would you see that Dr. P gets this please.
Yes, I'll put it in his tray. What is your name and date of birth?
(I have a dry/sometimes wicked sense of humour)
Oh its not for me. It's my daughter's, from the hospital.
                        What's your daughter's name?
                        Amanda Allen.
                        Date of birth.
                        Don't know.
                        ..............................................................................................................................
I wonder if the postman gets asked who the letters are from??????

Searching on line. I learned that anyone can gain access to their medical records online. It now concerns me, asto how much information NON MEDICAL staff can access. OK a medic yes, but some individual earning a bit of extra cash a couple of hours a week!!!!!!!!

Thanks @Sheal they seem good but are too high in sugars (potato crisps have one fifth of that amount) for Mrs Shiney and I'm not keen on them. I'm an old fashioned crisp fan :old:, with the blue twist :heehee:, but modern 'hand cooked' crisps are thicker, crispier and tastier.

I agree :blue thumb: but I don't like much salt on my crisps - just a smidgen. :heehee:
