My work (what's that?) trousers were 31" - they fitted well - these are allegedly 29" and are still a tad too long - seems to me that nowadays - sizes are only rough guides - and you have to try them on to see if they fit.:dunno:

I always have to smile when people talk about our Queen being tiny at 5’ 4” but to me she is a giant as I am only 5’ 1” so I think I am the one that is tiny:snorky:

Well we've had no programme details on the tele...just "Got to be announced" Virgin chap come out today and would it rig up no way...he checked the blockers the other chap had but on and they got changed for a start off then checked the router that's fine and our trouble with the tele is we've had a faulty Tivo box since it was sent we and remote...new one as gone in, all channels working properly and also the ones back that virgin stripped we of.

The chap said all Virgin customers who was stripped of channels will get them back either later today or tomorrow...virgin have finally coughed up the £2 million for customers to have their full channels which was took from we.:)

@Gail_68 this Virgin stuff sounds like a real challenge. Why did they take channels away?

It is part of the reason that we moved our TV service away from Virgin a few weeks back, and we have been with them 20 years or more.

Essentially, there is a broadcaster called UKTV, who supply 10 channels - some of the channels are free to air, whereas others are pay-to-view. Virgin wanted to massively reduce the amount that they were paying UKTV, and UKTV (rightly) refused, not least as the amount that Virgin were charging us customers had actually just gone up for the second time in a year. They then tried to get UKTV to agree to supplying their free to air channels, free of charge - - whilst Virgin would still be charging their customers full whack (you cannot watch anything on Virgin, without paying a subscription). So, almost exactly a month ago, all of those channels disappeared from our screens - and it just so happens that many of them are amongst the most watched channels there is.

This caused one hell of a backlash, mostly on Twitter, from disgruntled Virgin customers, and many (like us) jumped ship and took our business elsewhere. They finally saw sense, and decided to pay UKTV what they were due for their channels, and the channels reappeared this weekend.

However, it will definitely have damaged Virgin quite badly, as a lot of people almost immediately started looking, and inevitably got offers from other providers (Sky being the main one) that gave them more, for less money each month - and they were getting all the UKTV channels as well. Virgin did not notify customers by letter or email that the channels were being removed - the first we knew was a message on screen on those channels on a Friday night that those channels were 'changing' the following night. On social media, and on their own website, Virgin refused to answer questions and instead posted copy and paste replies - all this achieved was to anger people more. As people cancelled in their droves, they actually had the cheek to ring people up that had cancelled, and tried to get them back on more expensive deals!

UKTV on the other hand, well it was a masterclass in how to deal with customers - they were friendly, answering questions, giving advice and their CEO even made a short video explaining the situation; they apologised throughout, even though in reality it was Virgin being bull-headed and greedy. It took weeks for Virgin to actually say sorry, and even then it was half hearted.

What is worse, is that in among all this, ITV were also renegotiating with Virgin for their channels - and again, Virgin had been trying to turn the financial screws on them, so ITV were threatening to pull their channels too. Virgin have a history of this, and lost a number of Sky channels a few years back by pulling the same sort of stunt - clearly, they never learn.

Hello Lori, it's exactly how FC as said and yes mate it is a challenge firstly trying to talk to someone is English now it's mainly based with India to answer your complaints and they only just speak broken English :phew:
Freeview that's built in a lot of Tele's today are owned by different companies and Virgin gets channels from sky rented but it was also using Freeview channels in it's customer packages and they was stopped so it caused customers to lose channels that we was paying for and apparently Freeview wanted £10 million from Virgin to get access to them and Virgin refused and apparently they've now come to a deal of £2 million mate and now customers have their channels back.

This explains more regarding Freeview unless you know already :)

Freeview is the United Kingdom's digital terrestrial television platform. It is operated by DTV Services Ltd, a joint venture between the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky and transmitter operator Arqiva. It was launched in 2002, taking over the licence from ITV Digital which collapsed that year. The service provides consumer access via an aerial to the six DTT multiplexes covering the United Kingdom. In April 2014 it had some 60 DVB-T TV channels, 26 digital radio channels, 10 HD channels, six text services, 11 streamed channels, and one interactive channel. A number of new HD channels launched in 2014, from a new group of multiplexes awarded to Arqiva. The new HD channels were launched in selected areas on 10 December 2013 with a further roll-out during 2014.

i received two parcels today both identical in size (14" x 6" X 6"] from the same firm that I ordered some astronomy accessories from Inside the first box was crumpled brown paper and one accessory in a 2" x 2" X 1" box, in the other, 3 boxes all 2"x 2" x 2" and again full of crumpled brown paper. Why didn't they just use one smaller box???:dunno::doh: What a waste of resources.:wallbanging:

Amazon only have a limited amount of standard sizes and their computer in the warehouse decides which size is used. There was an investigation about conservation a year or so ago that pointed out to Amazon that they were wasting an enormous amount of packaging by being too inflexible in their range of packages. They agreed that they needed to change but said it would take at least two years to do so - although their Australian company had already done so!

I'm pleased to say that we only have Freeview and have access to all those 100+ channels. We've never paid a penny to any TV service :old:. I don't think we watch even 10% of them :heehee:
