I need to buy a new builders/yard broom as the head has fallen off my 70 year old broom. I've fixed it about twenty times over the years but it is now an ex-broom!

They don't make things the way they used to! :old: :snorky:

You are probably not going to believe me but below is what we use for sweeping everywhere. I will now never ever use your a typical yard broom. The big heavy bristle type brooms are so tiring to use when you have mountains of leaves to collect and a long long driveway to keep clear.
When you have horses there are a few things you become expert in and 1 is sweeping to keep the stable area clear. When we had 3 horses here I would spent maybe about 1/2 an hour a day sweeping up after them with the typical yard brush, then a friend introduced me to a Sweepa broom. Looks pretty naff and head is smaller than I would choose but they are brilliant. So light to use and the rubber bristles are soft so make a fantastic job of sweeping up. They don't last forever if you use them a great deal as we do but I will never buy any other kind of broom again. Great for indoors too, hairdressers @shiney;) use them I believe.
You can buy just the heads and the poles are pretty much bog standard which you can get from the likes of B and Q. Do not get the JML wonder broom thingy which is a copy. They are rubbish as don't have the all important soft bendy bristles.

@silu, that looks like the rubber brooms they sell here which are great for getting cat hair off carpet so it doesn't clog the vacuum.

You could well be right @Victoria as the friend who recommended them to me breeds dogs. I didn't think about using them outside until I broke my bog standard broom and used the Sweepa as a stand in...some stand in. I know it is somewhat sad to be excited about a broom:rolleyespink: but when I was trying to keep 3 horses and the driveway not looking like a tinkers yard, anything to make my life simpler was a godsend and the Sweepa does that alright. I think they were originally from the USA? The older ones had bigger heads but nowadays they are a bit smaller, no doubt a bit like Mars Bars which back in the day were huge now you could stick 1 in your eye:snorky:.

Somebody else is picking the local Elderberries!

Good job I took my pole with a hook on the end for pulling down the higher bunches, because somebody else had taken nearly all the low hanging fruit.

@Scrungee that'll teach you for lying in too late :)

I have a problem with squirrels tsking a bit out of a crabapple and then discarding. Luckily I have my handy dandy crabapple/nut picker upper :)
