Our parking at hospitals and medical centers is also costly but the hospital/centers don't get any of the proceeds. These companies make a deal to build/pave the lots and maintain them and keep every penny. A truly stupid set up as I believe that it would create an extra revenue stream if they managed these facilities themselves!
I have a neighbour who is a real piece of work too. They have been running a hockey school out of their home :yikes: and I have been trying to get it to cease and desist for nearly 8 years now. The town has finally coughed up the fact that even though this is not an area zoned for their business, they won't enforce an order because none of the students have signed an affidavit saying they attend the school. How stupid is that! I have videos, pictures, government docs verifying the school is registered as operating there etc. So, I am now looking to our province ombudsman's office to look into the town. Just got a message to call them this morning. Maybe I'll get somewhere...

My moan for today is the media circus that has blown up this morning about Frank Field removing the Greenpeace protester from the Mansion House dinner last night. The claims of assault, the outcry that he should resign and how he shouldn't have done it because she is a woman.

Was she trespassing? Should she have been in there? Was she striding toward the Chancellor? Could she have been carrying an offensive weapon, or have been wrapped in some sort of incendiary device under her clothing? Is the fact that she is a woman even relevant - - I thought that we are all equal? Since when did peaceful protest evolve into bullying others or barging into private venues? What would happen if they tried to barge into Twickenham Stadium, Ibrox, Wembley etc to 'peacefully protest'.

Enough of pandering to this PC nonsense. If someone wants to take these sort of risks to make their point, then they are big enough to take the consequences. As for the claims of assault - utter tripe! Assault is what Macron is doing to people protesting in the streets in France, and ironically that is not shown anywhere on our TV screens.

@Fat Controller Sorry, I've gone into my post in 'Edit' and it's now not showing whereas it was showing when I edited before. I haven't the faintest where I got it from as I did an image search. So thanks for trying but let's just forget it. :noidea:

I agree. I've seen the incident on the news. Good for him :dbgrtmb:. It was an immediate reaction to someone not invited that was barging in. It was the ejection of an intruder into a private dinner that was not open to the general public. I don't think he used excessive force. If a group of people invaded your daughter's wedding you'd eject them with no qualms. The gender of the person is immaterial.

I agree with peaceful protest but they should have protested outside when guests were arriving and leaving. If anything, the intruders should have been prosecuted.

We would be if people and media stopped and let us. We're not allowed to just get on and treat each other equally without someone placing special emphasis or making something out of nothing just because it's the current 'thing' and has been for some time.
It's an odd thing but I've never actually found anyone that treats women differently to men; they're either universal a-holes, in which case everyone gets treated badly, or they're a typical human and they just live their lives.
If this had been a woman ejecting a man, or a woman ejecting the woman would the story still be sensationalised?

When it comes to reporting in newspapers, whatever the subject, the first priority is "selling papers."
When it comes to reporters presenting news stories on TV. The first priority is to get yourself noticed. They've all "bigged this up." It's what they do.

No doubt the TV channels wiil get some mileage by dragging out debates on this. Some will want to turn her into a hero, or a victim or whatever. It's hardly really news.
People get ejected from places where they've not been invited every day of the week and it never gets reported. So why was this any different?

The woman wasn't actually injured. OK she was "forcibly ejected."

It might deter others from doing something as stupid again.
For me it wasn't really newsworthy, so I wouldn't be interested in debating it.

Well the good old BBC were certainly pushing it this morning.
Along with their usual bias approach.
I thought he did a pretty good job of ejecting her.
                    Minimum fuss really.
Where he has gone wrong is by apologising, which suggests he himself thinks he did something wrong.
                    Where was security?

If it had been a man. It wouldn't have made the news.

It's not the same, but here's an example of a bit of "instant justice." It's about ten years ago. At our golf club during the school summer holidays, there were three teenager probably about thirteen or fourteen who would come onto the course by climbing over a fence, hide in the trees then run out onto a particular fairway and steal golf balls. As the player could be a much as 200 yards behind their ball when they saw it get stolen, they could do little about it. It got to the stage where when players reached where the ball should have been, these lads would just stand on the side of the fairway smirking, with a "you can't touch us attitude." When one day a friend (he's over six feet and about fifteen stone) asked for his ball back, this kid just laughed. Unfortunately for him he was standing near a large pond to the side of the fairway, it's only about three feet deep at most but there's a lot of silt in it. My friend picked the kid up and chucked him in it. He stood at the edge of the pond to make sure the kid got out. He did, completely covered in mud and slime.
He got a, "I'm gonna tell my dad about you!" Whereupon my friend told the kid his name and added. "If your dad wants to find me, I'll be in the club bar for a couple of hours after we finish our round."
Nothing came of it and we never saw the kids on the course again.

Tony Martin, Oscar Pistorius, and now 'I feared she was armed' Mark Field.

If I were to try that sort of defence, after similar behaviour if finding somebody in my garden or on my plot, I'd be in court.

I've even had somebody threaten me with a screwdriver, but the police said as he was an electrician and had legitimate reason to be in possesion of it, there was nothing they could do.
