Having tea and we looked out the window to the garden and seen a wooly jumper eat the grass, went out and put him back into farmers field where he got out from, now we're mowerless:) i think it's lamb chop coming to see us after we got him out of the hot tub

Can you remember the last time you wrote one @Loofah, I can't! In fact I've lived in Scotland three years now and I couldn't tell you what they look like since we changed banks.

We use cheques all the time and receive quite a lot of them. We do very little online banking and never go to our bank. Cheques are paid in by putting them into a free paying-in envelope and dropping them into the village post office when Mrs Shiney goes for her daily walk.

Regular payments are done by DD (utilities, council tax etc. with cashback from the bank account) and other payments by free credit card which gives me cashback on all transactions.

            Works for us. :blue thumb:

I haven't even owned a chequebook for longer than I remember, it's a wonder to me why they still exist

A good while back cheques were going to be discontinued, but there are still people of the older generation that haven't come to terms with technology etc. It will happen eventually I think.

Cheques were scheduled to be discontinued in 2018 but that has now been cancelled. Consumer groups and the Government put pressure on the Payments Council (the banking organisation) and the use of cheques has now been said to go on indefinitely. They will, of course, eventually be phased out but the banking sector have made technical advances for them to be able to process the cheques much cheaper - using imaging. If you use cheques you need to request new cheque books as they are now not sent out automatically.

A lot of Mrs Shiney's patients don't have internet, or physical access to a bank, and need to pay by cheque (cash always gratefully accepted :heehee:).

I had a thought earlier - just the one - with all the banks closing branches (our local village is about to lose it's final banking branch, 10 years ago there were 4) would it be a good idea to have out of town branches? No-one wants to go into town just for banking so an out of town place, exactly the same as they do with DIY stores or supermarkets (could even be a concession within one actually), would be easily accessible. Buses could run there from town centre and other routes for the elderly. Easy parking for everyone, easy access.

                        Good idea or no?

I for one rarely go into my local town, just hate the pushing and shoving, congestion and chasing parking spaces.

Getting through the traffic nowadays to get into town is difficult. I'm thinking about not only growing my own fruit and veg, which I do at the moment, but having my own sheep and cows! :heehee:

I just remembered :ideaIPB: that we have butcher shops in nearby villages - so scrap my bright idea. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

At certain times of the day traffic is pretty much at a standstill around here, mostly between 6am and 7pm, other than that you can get around.
Driving back from Whitstable last night at 12.30am was actually quite pleasant.

                                Thinking of becoming nocturnal.
