So @pete I guess I'm getting a "deal" compared to over there. I don't know how one can afford to do a deck at those rates.

I may just buy the reel of wire and experiment down in the cellar without even uncoiling it. Just hook up the ends to the array the way I planned it and see if it operates as I hope it will. I am an impetuous so and so. But I am a bit A type so I like to get on with things and know that I've checked off all the important details.

Yes, impetuous. That is also something to moan about!

Must be infuriating not being able to do much outside until spring.

I'm hoping fooling around in the cellar will at least sort out any problems I don't foresee so when the good weather comes, I won't get any surprises. (Ever hopeful Lori) I want to move a lot of amps over a fairly long distance without losing too much power. That is why the wire is expensive. Thicker/less resistance. :fingers crossed: Lots of grid charts are online which are good guidelines but I know they cannot possibly take into account all circumstances.

And @Jack McHammocklashing I do see lots of reels of the heavy wiring and also scaffolding at construction sites but I think they'd be a little suspicious of an old grey haired broad approaching the goodies

We have mostly agreed to modify all sorts of language: it’s generally agreed it’s acceptable to do so. Just basic decency I suppose.

Some want to draw a line and say - no further. Ok. Personally I find it costs me nothing, might go some way to reducing hurt felt by a particular group who really have had a tough time and I think the risk you raise seems remote. I am not aware of anyone suggesting we should ban all speech which might offend someone.

But a simple modification where something is raised like this about a group who really do have long-standing history of abuse - why not? We’ve done the same perfectly easily for all sorts of other groups after all

I agree with Pete, it needs to be unwound before putting power in, Lori.

Not to worry, I would only want to quickly see what amount of power is lost to resistance. Only a few seconds at a shot. But thanks for reminding me not to walk away and forget about something!

I probably won't be getting the wire for awhile. Everything is socked in with snow.

It is so deep on the roads, it reminds me of the time (about 30 years ago) I tried to get out of to the main street and literally ended up high on the snow. Wheels barely touching the pavement :doh:Won't ever do that again. Although it was a little like sitting up high in a monster truck :heehee:

                  some Canucks just never learn...
"When a vehicle went through thin ice on the Rideau River near Ottawa on Sunday, area residents moved quickly to use a kayak to save the driver. That's an interesting story on its own. But there's more! The driver took the time to get a selfie while standing on the back window of the car as it sank and while waiting to be rescued. She has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle."
