What is peeing me off at the moment is the number of emails I receive every day telling me that my McAfee virus checker has expired (I have never used McAfee) or that I have won a loyalty prize from Asda, Tesco or Currys. They always come from different addresses so I cannot block them. I always ding them as Spam but they keep appearing. Another one has arrived since I started typing this. They always have the following at the bottom

Some on here are only paying in the £1.50's. That will go up as OPEC have decided to cut production so they can put the prices up.

A very poor GBP to USD has not helped lately. I paid £1.49 on the way from Lincoln to Skegness 2 weeks ago. In Lincoln, the garages and supermarkets were all £1.67 & £168, then as you headed into the countryside the cheaper the fuel was, especially for unleaded, not so much for diesel. We passed garages on the way to Skegness that were £1.60, £1.57. £1.54 and then £1.49

Cheapest round our area is still £1.56 for unleaded and £1.73 for diesel, doubt we will see any further drops, OPEC only increased production from July to September.

I'm finding it strange this time round that the service stations in the towns are more expensive than the out of town ones.
Even supermarkets that were always cheaper are more expensive than some of the smaller ones out in the country.

Just smacks of profiteering as far as I can see.

Exactly the same scenario here, @pete. It's because the small independents like our village garage are passing on the entire subsidy from the government whereas the town supermarkets are only passing on some of it and keeping the rest as profit. Don't see how that can be legal! Still, it's win-win at the moment, as we don't need to drive 20kms to get cheaper fuel and we're supporting our local economy :pathd: As for the supermarket food prices, well they're just taking the pee!

The price of food in our supermarkets are quite reasonable but I only tend to buy fresh fruit, veg and meat. Some of the meats have gone up but not enormously. Packaged stuff seems to be going up in price. Although there are some packaged things I buy and I bought some choc ices on special offer

Seems like they are taking the pee more in France than the UK. The UK only reduced fuel duty by 5p where in France the current subsidy is 30 cents. Macron earlier this year introduced a subsidy of 15 cents per litre which was due to end in July. This has since been extended and the subsidy increased to 30 cents till the end of October as Total Energies matched the government subsidy. From November the subsidy is due to drop to 10 cents a litre. If Total Energies are matching the governments rebate, then in theory, they should be one of the cheapest fuel stations to fill up at.

I'm not sure we are getting any subsidy from the government.
          Over here they prefer tax.

Oh, I forgot about the 5p reduction in tax, can that really be called a subsidy?

You are lucky. I bought E10 in Morrisons last Monday and it was £1.62. £7.36/gallon.

My price above was for E10. The supermarkets here are still dearer than local stations Jocko.

There are no local stations near me. All the local stations are huge forecourts and they are all within a penny of each other.

Oh here too  But as a gesture to prevent riots, Macron decided to 'subsidise' the price of fuel for a month. What that really means is he's foregoing some of the 60% tax levied anyway on the price. I still don't see how some retailers can get away with not passing on the full reduction, though
ETA ...just read gks's post, which explains why the Total garages are cheaper....

They are. Most of them sold out within days. But that would explain why the supermarkets are now more expensive :ideaIPB: Just to add to the joy, some refineries are on strike, so panic-buying is the order of the day
