A simple thank you can't be too much but an over effusive one can be. :)

Agree, but it is a simple thank you/obrigada ... but it is every time he gets/hands/does something for me. He told me once, "If you say it one more time, I will stop." I can't help it and at times needed LOTS of help.

I was once told by an ex boss "that if a lorry driver starts to think he then can't be a liability"

It seems we have more or less given up and to be honest, I can see why. The real problem here is that we've gone about this entirely backwards (as usual) and worse still, it is being done by mandate. We've mandated that in just 8 years, no fossil fuelled vehicles will be sold in the UK. Many, if not all, council housing stock in Scotland has had open fires ripped out (mandatory) and electric heating installed. We've mandated that coal fired power stations should close by 2025, whilst older nuclear plants (Hinkley B, Chapelcross, Sellafield to name but a few) have all closed, but no replacements were constructed. Now, when we are running out of electricity, that is somehow the fault of the man in the street?

In London, TfL came out and said last year that contracts awarded from that point on would not be on diesel vehicles - so essentially mandating that all new contracts would have to be on electric. That has already bitten them on the backside as the power grid has essentially ran out of capacity - our first garage to be electrified was quite strictly controlled in terms of when we could charge vehicles, in as much that we could only charge at night when a nearby shopping centre was closed; we thought that sort of thing would be quite unique as we progressed, but no - the site that my office is located in has just over 70 charging points, but only 20 of them can be used at any one time during the small hours of the night - during the day, that drops to 4 slow chargers or 1 rapid charger & 1 slow charger. This is a site that has capacity for over 100 buses, which the current grid infrastructure simply cannot sustain.

Yes, the war in Ukraine has had an effect, but it is not the underlying cause - the underlying cause here is successive governments, across Europe, failing to invest in infrastructure whilst at the same time mandating that older methods can no longer be used.

It is exactly the same situation as hosepipe bans and flooding - lack of action, lack of infrastructure.

Interesting, but. France made it law sometime ago that all new public and commercial buildings must be partially roofed with solar panels or with a live roof in certain districts. France has set out a plan to cut energy consumption by 10%, doing many things you have pointed out. In June or July all retailers were told, while using a/c doors must be kept closed, or a fine could be issued. Something that environmentalists have been urging the UK government to do for over a decade, not just in the summer months but also in the winter month's. Main chain retailers have opposed this as they see a closed door as an obstacle to a point of sale.

They are encouraging car sharing and to cut hot water in public toilets, but in the current climate is that a good or bad thing. Last week, according to worldometer's website there was 1,858,622 new covid case's in Europe. of which 1,088,269 were in Germany and France. Is their new advice on saving energy contributing to a sharp increase in covid cases lately?

The UK sits on coal. We would have been better off sticking to coal-fired power stations and carbon capture if the research had started when we shut down our coal mines and bought coal from Poland.

This is how I was raised. I'm quite shocked to learn that this is no longer normal.

One incident springs to mind. A while ago a lady at work did some work task for me. She didn't have to, it was my responsibility not hers, so she'd done me a favour. I was distracted at the time so I didn't thank her. I realised about half an hour later and was absolutely mortified. I suppose I could have pinged her a text message but that wouldn't do. So I got out of my chair and went to find her in person. I apologised for forgetting to thank her, then belatedly thanked her, then finally gave her express permission in front of witnesses to throw something at my head if I ever forget my manners again.

I was raised to understand the importance of manners, and I try to instill the same understanding in my kids.

A friend of mine once summed it up in one short sentence. Manners cost nothing but mean everything.

              Too true.

I had three hospital stays within a year (42 days in fact) so got to know all the staff quite well, I thanked everyone, even the Auxilliary Staff (cleaners, etc). One day the one asked me why I thanked her and I replied because you clean my room. She replied that she was paid to do that and I replied that it still deserved my thanks. So she thanked me.

A few years ago, I took myself to the walk in centre because I had a chest pain that had been steadily getting worse for some time, but had suddenly got worse much more rapidly.

Having checked in, I remember the receptionist kept looking over at me with a very worried look on her face. After a few minutes she got out of her seat and proceeded with haste to find someone suitably qualified. I was called through, much to the obvious annoyance of people who'd been waiting longer than me. I remember in the examination room suddenly swearing out loud as a wave of intense stabbing pain overwhelmed me. I then immediately apologised for my terrible outburst explaining it was a pain reaction, not aimed at them.

Over the next few minutes more and more people rushed into the room and attached more and more pipes and wires. Then I heard a loud crash, then nothing until I woke up surrounded by even more people, now including an ambulance crew. It's all a bit hazy from this point but I know one of them phoned my missus to explain what was happening, and everybody was both compassionate and super professional. I spent a few days in hospital where of course I met people in all sorts of job roles, from support staff through to consultants. Then I was released, all fixed.

I sent an email to the walk in centre, telling this story and how every single one of the individuals that participated in my care, starting all the way from the receptionist at the beginning, had been absolutely fantastic and that I'd hope that my expression of gratitude would be passed on to them all. I didn't expect a reply, but I got one, thanking me for my kind words, and informing me that my message had been forwarded to all the departments involved, which I thought was nice.

Yes, he had to go, but was he really only Trusses mouthpiece or did he have a part in in it.
He surely did have some in put, if not he should never have taken the job in the first place.
