Excuse my ignorance, but what is parmo?

 

Ahhhh...sounds like a cordon bleu but the chef forgot to put the sauce on the inside

 

Shiney described it more eloquently than I would have. But I would add that in addition to the basic parmo, nowadays people put a range of different toppings on in addition to the cheese sauce. I like mushrooms and jalapenos on mine. Some go for Italian and Spanish meat toppings like chorizo or cured ham.

The takeaways destroy them, often over cooking them to the consistency of cardboard with a cheap cheddar based sauce and cheap frozen chips welded to the top by the cooling cheese sauce, but some of the pubs take them to another level of culinary perfection.

In the pub we occasionally go to, the parmo is the only thing on the plate so that nothing sticks to it, and then perfectly cooked chips come in a separate bowl, and another separate bowl for the salad. All washed down with a nice real ale.

 

I took my wife and her daughter to a local Marston pub for lunch last Tuesday (we had been there earlier in the summer and thoroughly enjoyed it). The food was just as tasty as the last time but the portion sizes were drastically reduced. I suppose that is how they try to keep the prices manageable. I would say we won't be going back but as it is just around the corner and there is nothing else nearby, we probably will go again!

 

I used to like watching wildlife programmes but I'm not sure if I have changed or they have.
I find them mostly pretty depressing these days, especially the moaning voice of one particular presenter.
Now days they just seem to be made up of one animal ripping another animal apart, we all know it goes on, and has done for years, so lets show everyone all the gory details.

Then they go on about how climate change is killing everything off and the fact millions and millions of new people are now on the planet and need food, so animals have no habitat.

I cant put up with watching them anymore, there's no good news its all bad.

 

I watch one type or another most days ... but turn them off when they are animal eat animal too. There are still lots of good ones on, but I watch them on a Portuguese/Spanish channel, Odesseia (in English). There are some good Whale and Shark programmes too. Also Big Cats.

 

Ohhhh pete, you need to get over here for a bit! Fairy 'nuff, there's murder and mayhem amongst the mouse population, thanks to the cats, but we're teeming with wildlife from harvest mites up to wild boar It's been such a pleasure to turn a (relatively) barren field into a habitat bustling with all sorts of creatures. One of my first purchases now I'm in funds again is going to be a nightwatch camera, (infra red?) to see what goes on once I've crashed out!

 

Would a timely squib of soapy water be the solution (ha!) next year?
