I used to run and cycle, before things broke, cycling was a more pleasant way of getting from A to B locally than the car (unless weather was bad). Running was what I did for enjoyment and relaxation, even when running competitively it was fun.
Over the years I've had a number of people telling me they don't enjoy the exercise they're doing to keep fit, lose weight, raise money, beat a challenge etc. My response was always "don't do it then; find something you enjoy and do that instead". This often got baffled looks, but if you don't enjoy something then you won't keep it going.

I certainly agree with that :blue thumb:

      I enjoy moaning! :roflol:

The myth about doing 10,000 steps was plucked out of the air by Dr Yoshiro Hatano as he only calculated that would be a good number - and they needed something for their advertising.

The first proper activity or fitness tracker surfaced in 1965 with the Manpo-kei, invented by Dr Yoshiro Hatano, a Japanese professor at the Kyushu University of Health and Welfare.

The Manpo-kei translates to “10,000 steps meter” and was developed to help combat obesity in Dr Hatano’s country. He speculated that 10,000 steps with a proper balance of caloric intake and exercise to expend calories are enough to maintain a healthy body.

There's nothing wrong with that but the amount of steps needed varies by many factors. An interesting read  is this

      10,000 Steps: A Brief History

Back in the last century when I used to work I could be doing 10,000 steps on a busy day but it did nothing for my health apart giving me sore feet and aching legs. Most of those steps were done at a shuffle.

I guess I do quite a few thousand steps when I do the mowing but it's not really exercise, although it gets me out into the fresh air. :)

Overheard at the supermarket when I was shopping - two woman chatting at the checkout:- "According to my watch I've done over 3,500 steps whilst shopping so far"!

As with a lot of things it's quality not just quantity. :old:

That is what I do. I sit on my @r*e, eat biscuits and watch telly. I am "training" for an early coronary.

          My moan today is:

My Boiler is leaking & the Washing Machine is stopping mid-cycle. (I have cleaned the filter)
Engineers are booked for this coming Wed & Thurs (I do have service plans for both machines)

Our boiler packed up last week and is under warranty. The manufacturer's engineer came yesterday, checked the boiler over and said there was nothing wrong with it, then went into the loft where we have the hot water cylinder and the pump. He whacked around the pump a few times with a wrench and said it seems that the pump was kaput . Ten minutes after he left them pump started up and everything is working fine.

In the old days, when you needed a computer engineer or photo copy engineer, they came and wacked it with a 'silver hammer' and it miraculously worked. T'other Half and I both worked in these industries. The secret ... you have to know where to hit the hammer! ;)

This goes with cars too. I knew how to work on cars in the early years (changed tyres and a head gasket amongst other things). We had a Renault Clio when we came here and it had its problems. One day when Sis was visiting from Germany we went shopping to a centre way, way away. After shopping and lunch we got to the car with our baggage and the car would not start. I got out and opened the bonnet. Sis was panicking. An English couple nearby looked but ignored us. I hit the spot (the solenoid) and the car started. Sis said what did you do? I said hit the right spot. We got home safely.

@NigelJ I don't think I've ever seen anyone running around while smiling

I am so angry at the price of bird seed. It has gone up about 34% from last year. And as I drove back from the shops, the fellow on the radio was reporting that it has been verified that most of the companies in consumables had record profits since the beginning of the pandemic and it had very little to do with volume. It was sheer profit per item. :mute:

And that explains a lot about the pricing of most other items. The owner of our biggest grocery chain said he would freeze the prices on No Name (store brand) products. However, for example, a bag of flour that costs $11.99 today was only $8.99 just over a year ago. So he is freezing it at gouge rates with a more or less, "let them eat cake" attitude. :mute:

I ordered a few bits on E bay this morning.
Just looked at the conformation e mail.
The site clearly stated UK seller, complete with union Jack flags.

The e mail is partly in English, the rest is in Chinese.

E bay needs to get a grip on these devious bast****.

I'm totally fed up with emails wanting me to rate their delivery or some such other service.

I only do that when they foul up, if they do what they were paid to do I cant see why they keep wanting you to review how wonderful they are.

And as to online surveys with questions that are loaded so that you have to pick one of 6.........
Well, I'm not going to keep praising companies up for doing what you paid them to do.
                            End of rant.

I never give reviews or ratings to anyone Pete. I see it as asking for praise. If we buy from a shop we don't do it - so why online?
