The dust men are not collecting garden waste today, because it rained yesterday.
I wouldn't mind but I pay £42 to have it collected and they stop doing it for any reason they can think of.
Plus miss 2 collections over Christmas.

I moaned some months ago about our streetlights not working (there are only three of them and we're out in the sticks) and that I complained about it around when Covid started. In the past we just contacted the Parish Council and they got it fixed.

This time they said it was nothing to do with them - and the district council and county council all denied responsibility. After a number of emails backwards and forwards with the Parish they more or less washed their hands of it. So, a month or so ago, I posted all the info on a website called "Fix My Street" and it gets published on social media and sent to the county council.

Today there was a man there working on them and he said the Parish had sent him.

Well done "Fix My Street". :blue thumb:

Our garden waste collection is every week of the year and they rarely miss :blue thumb: and it's a freebie. They do struggle now on the timing as they have problems getting drivers.

A few years back they started to charge for it and they found it coast them more to clear up the fly tipping! It was being dumped on the country roads where there was no chance of them putting up cameras. I warned them it would happen - I knew the head of the department in those days.

Weetabix, one of the all time best examples of marketing lies.

'you can tell he's had his Weetabix'.

Really? How? Because his bowels are regular because of the fibre? Because there's pretty much nothing else in them in nutritional terms.

I'm not knocking Weetabix or consumers of Weetabix by the way. If you like it, great. But I don't know how they get away with the way they're marketed.

What's garden waste? Is it stuff that the council sell back to you in fancy bags labelled peat free ?

They dont seem to sell it here, I dont know what they do with it.
They only get palm fronds with spines, that wont rot, or similar, or nasty weeds full of seeds from me.
Brambles are another thing I like to just get rid off.
Grass cuttings and hedge trimmings all go for my own compost, the council just get the rubbish.

I wrote to the powers that be for my area to suggest that they set up a decent shredding and composting facility that could sell the result back to residents. Never even had the courtesy of a reply :gaah: They prefer to flog stupid tiny compost bins to people which proves that most politicians know nothing and care even less about gardening, especially on a big scale. Some neighbouring departements run very successful schemes. It's good stuff for mulching/soil improver, lessens the need for bonfires, reduces landfill....it's hard to see why they won't implement something here :dunno:

Found this on my local council website.

                            1. Your garden waste is taken to a local facility for composting.
                            2. It is piled in large rows called 'windrows' to allow naturally occurring bacteria to break down the garden waste.
                            3. The windrows are turned regularly. This ensures that the heat produced by the bacteria is spread evenly through the pile, killing any weed seeds that might be present.
                            4. The end material is then sieved to produce soil improver, which is bagged for sale. You can buy this from Caledonia Horticulture.
                            5. Commercial users of this compost are local sport and leisure services.
