In-vessel composting is the process where your food and garden waste is composted down at the Countrystyle Group in Sittingbourne.

    How in-vessel composting works:

    1. food and garden waste is shredded
    2. shredded waste is sent to in-vessel bunkers for one week, maintaining temperatures of 70 degrees centigrade
    3. the waste is then left to mature for 6-8 weeks
    4. the end product is used in composting products and mainly used on Kent Farms
Unfortunately the end product produced is not available for residential re-sale.

Living rurally there's no garden waste collection here. If I don't compost or burn it, it's a 24 mile round trip to the tip.

I dont think it would bother me if I didn't have the collection, I do have enough space for burning or composting but I have a bit more ground than most around here and the gardens are larger than average being older properties.
Modern properties are just not designed for people to deal with their own waste and there are some people who will just not have a waste area in their gardens.
They kind of live in this sterile environment where all waste be must be disposed of and nothing should spoil my view.

It's about the same distance to the tip for us so I wouldn't dream of going. I have five large compost heaps and a large bonfire regularly but still have three large wheelie bins of green waste every week. I couldn't possibly take it to the tip. If they started charging for it I would just have larger or more frequent bonfires. To do 70 miles each week wouldn't do my pocket or the environment much good - apart from having a filthy car :heehee:

I don't get a lot of waste from my garden Shiney. Fresh grass cuttings are devoured by the neighbouring horses during the summer season and I've no need to mow through the winter months. Weeds etc. are composted and the rest is burnt. This time of year is a problem with leaf mountains. I burn them if they are dry but usually it means a few tip runs with those as I don't have an area to store them for leaf mould.

@Sheal We have about 70 trees (used to be more) so lots of leaves. They all get composted with the grass cuttings As the heaps get so big they tend to rot down quite quickly - apart from the top 12". I don't turn the heaps but when I want to use the compost the dry top 12" gets dumped into the heap next to it to get that started. The weeds all go in the wheelie bins for the council to take as they wouldn't be killed properly in our compost heaps. The heaps are only 6-12 months old when they get spread as compost.

I have to say - the Royal Mail - they are certainly consistent.

Delivery expected last Thursday - still not arrived. I was somewhat forgiving during the covid lockdown - but we're now back to as normal as normal can be - I wonder what the excuse is this time?

I have just been reminded why I avoid using Royal Mail for parcels. If an independent courier can get their act together with far fewer resources - why can't the Royal Mail?

Hasn't Royal mail been on strike?
Not sure when but they are not very efficient at the best of times.
Letters get through better than parcels, half the time because the postman can't carry them all.

I've no problems with Royal Mail, they're efficient here, but on the other hand couriers are a nightmare!

Yes, they are still striking on and off. There will be disruption leading up to Christmas apparently.

Couriers are pretty good mostly around here.
They tend to be on time etc.
How they manage to do that with the chaotic traffic I don't know.

Never a problem with couriers round here as we are out in the sticks with very little traffic, but they're always in a hurry.

Just one particular mob. Their driver delivers to every other No 20 in the village except me. Sometimes the recipients bring them to my door. Other times they just keep the parcel.
No amount of complaining to the depot has any effect.
