LATEST MOAN FROM YOU AND ME - 2022

I did hear the 1,400 figure, I think that was last year's rise.
It's one of those things I'm kind of split on, I think the rise offered is puny bearing in mind the inflation rate, but at the same time the NHS keeps getting money thrown at it and nothing changes.
The whole thing needs sorting out but I think it's too big to do that, sometimes think it needs breaking up.

I worked in the NHS and it is so wasteful. No private business could afford to be run the way it is.
They go on about nurses' wages but nurses are in Grade 5. The grades start at 1 and as a Planner/Estimator in the Estates Department, I was in Grade 4. There are a lot worse off in the NHS than nurses.
Band 5 nursing roles apply to newly qualified Nurses. The current starting salary for a Band 5 Nurse is £27,055. With 2-4 years of experience, a Band 5 Nurse will earn £29,180, and the very top of this banding pays £32,934.
Band 6 roles start at £33,706, and rise to £40,588.
Band 7 roles start at £41,659 and rise to £47,672 for anyone with more than 5 years of experience.

 

This pay rise was ordained in April 2022 and I received mine, back dated to April, in July/August.
In my case about 4%. The unions started trying to negotiate as soon as the pay body announced it's proposal.
The Government does occasionally ignore the pay review body, I believe 2018 the review body awarded 0.5% and the Government said 0%.
This year the % varied according to Band (Band 1 was removed a few years ago and the scale starts at 2) overall it was about £1400 a year across the board so Band 2 got about 8% Band 6 about 4. See here Find NHS Pay Bands 2022/23
The review body is due to begin work on the 2023 rise soon.
If they award 12% who thinks the Government will abide by it?

 

I doubt it, but probably the inflation rate later next year will have some bearing.

Like all these things its very complicated for people looking from the outside to really get an idea of what has been and is going on.
Which is why my thoughts are split on the subject.

All I know is something needs sorting out fast.

 

You've answered your own question, JWK. Too many overpaid paper-shufflers and way too few frontline staff.

 

Which is how nationalised industry always was, but with calls to re-nationalise everything these days I think people have forgotten just how poor and overstaffed they were.

 

T'other Half went to the Post Office but there was nothing in our box. He popped his head in the door to wish the PO girl Boas Festas and she said Senor Vicky and held up a big box! Yes, the missing plant from Germany shipped by DHL on 25 November for which I have been refunded. It is in tact except most of the leaves fell off when the cellophane was removed. It is resting outside at the moment in the fresh air and I will photograph later and put in Show Us Your Purchases later.
