LATEST MOAN FROM YOU AND ME - 2022

I didn't even know Screwfix sold fence posts, its not the kind of place I would use for timber.

 

Most people don't. If you type, timber, in the search box, you are prompted with the message, we don't sell wood. Yet they have sawn timber posts, picket and fence panels galore on their webiste. Mind you, its delivery only, probably will come from B&Q.

 

Screwfix and Toolstation are rivals. I recently bought new door handles from Toolstation which were a few pence cheaper than Screwfix. I spotted the same handles in B&Q and they were two and a half times dearer. B&Q have really hiked their prices since the start of covid and not doing themselves any favours.

 

Yesterday the harbour commissioner unveiled the newly restored West Pier Lighthouse at our local town, Whitehaven.




Then overnight the harbour commissioned was welcomed with this.



My mate had his car and living room windows put out with a brick over the weekend. It is so embarrassing to live round here, an absolute dump with no respect to private and public property.

 

That was my first thought. Looking on social media the police are seeking anyone with information to come forward. They have found golf ball sized ball bearings inside and outside the lighthouse, probably fired from a distance with a catapult.

 

A few years ago, long story, but one evening our street was being rained on by pebbles, you could hear them hitting the roof tiles and cars.
Anyway they hit a woman down the roads car and dented it in a couple of places, she got onto her son who was a martial arts addict, he turned up with three mates and they drove round the block and found a group of youths firing the pebbles from catapults straight up into the air, of course they were coming back down with real force.

Next thing I got a knock on the door and there was this bloke about 5ft6in tall but the same across the shoulders, he had this mush by the scruff of his neck and he made him make a grovelling apology for being a complete idiot and he swore never to do it again.
Not sure how many houses they dragged them round, but we never had anymore trouble from them.

 

We've got young people setting fire to 25 vans and cars near by, they have now been cault

 

Juist got an e mail from British gas saying they need to "urgently" change my electric meter, oh and while we are in your house we might as well change the gas meter as well, then you will be safe for many years to come.

I've been on a fixed price until the end of April, my suspicious mind tells me they are up to something, either they dont trust the readings I've been sending them or they are going to turn up with a super duper, not so, smart meter.

I'm going to ignore it for now and see what happens, I cant see why its suddenly become urgent that they need to change my meter.

 

I've been looking at BG tariffs and the cheapest fixed deal works out about £200 a year more expensive than standard variable ATM.

I've looked into the meter thing a bit more and they are pushing in my area for smart meters, so I think that is what its all about.
It says if I dont contact them they will send me a fitting date and I can change it or, surprise surprise, just cancel it, but it didn't say that in the e mail.

It also says because my meter is old its in danger of catching fire sounds like scaring people into accepting smart meters to me.

 

I have a smart meter for both gas and electricity and think they are great. Lets me see what I am spending on a daily basis (should I need it).
