Disruption for residents is annoying and can cause a lot of issues. We get the knock on effect even from the New Forest Show where people prefer to ' find ' parking well away from the event and travel the last bit by public transport and the same with the Southampton Boat Show too. Our little train station is too good at times.:heehee:

Must admit I've never been keen on disruption for events etc.
Roads are being closed around here for the jubilee weekend, it's a real pain for some people who are working, they have to get their cars out of their streets before it all starts and then can't get back in again.
It's not 1945 or even 1953, things have changed.

Seen at a local nursery this morning.
Ensete marellii. 6 leaves and about 2ft 6in to 3ft tall.
£55. A bit steep bearing in mind how fast they grow. 20220527_102205.jpg

@shiney in my area, they started doing roadwork on main arteries during the night and then opening a minimum of 2 lanes during the day, every day. So what happens? The people living nearby complain about sleep issues

Rang the GP today they are still telling people to use econsult via the practice website; snag they've removed the link not only that the econsult website says that the practice no longer use econsult. No wonder A&E had ambulances queuing around the entrance area last weekend.
Good news I was only No 4 in the queue.

I'm always no 6 in the queue.
Last time I rang I got to no 4 and stayed there for 15minutes, must have been tea break.

Think all the GP surgeries need a good kick up the backside to get people through the doors again.

I was told this week of a case where a GP was observed talking to a patient and reading off the 111 website.
Agree that the whole GP system needs a shake up and they need to become the first point of call for sick people. Too many people go straight to A&E.
Perhaps we need more drop in clinics in towns and shopping centres; where it's easy to make an appointment and the GP, doctor, nurse or whoever has access to your notes.
Currently my GP has a set of notes containing letters from the hospital and the hospital has letters from the GP, but as far as I can make out that is just about the only things they share; I am currently trying to access my records and I have to go to the hospital and the GP with separate requests.

Things have definitely changed I had to drop in the surgery yesterday and there was 2 people in the waiting room.
BC the place would have been packed out with people mid mornings.
I think only allowing one person in has helped, it used to be almost a family outing with mum dad and all the kids turning up.

I'm having this one as a moan even though I've benefitted from it - I bought a couple of plants on eBay which have turned up already and been potted on. Only £9. Weirdly I've just been refunded and they haven't said why! It's so frustrating not knowing!

Dr surgeries very busy, well in Scotland Prescribed medicines are FREE
So you go to the Doctor and get a prescription for your cream/cough bottle FREE
If you go to the chemist they charge you the £4.60 over the counter, with a prescription FREE

Now if the Gov/NHS could come to some arrangement with pharmacy's, that the cough bottle was given FREE to the customer and claimed the money back from the NHS
Then Dr's would only be bothered by serious cases that need a doctors attention and NOT all
the free loaders that want a bandage

Some years ago, when I used to pay, my GP would tell me to go buy it myself and write it on a piece of paper to give to the pharmacist.
He would only give prescriptions for stuff you cant buy over the counter.

I must be stupid as I always assumed that was the point of a prescription! If I can buy it myself then why do I need a prescription?!

You need a doctor to decide what you need for what is wrong with you. :blue thumb: Back in the old days when we used to pay for prescriptions the doctor told us whether it was cheaper to buy over the counter or to have the prescription. Like the time he decided that I just needed painkillers and Paracetamol would be sufficient - but I must stick to the maximum limits. He started to write a prescription and I said that I can buy them over the counter cheaper. His answer was 'not in the quantity you're going to need!'. He then gave me the script for 200 :rolleyespink:.

I do have a moan about our surgery. Apart from it being very difficult to see a doctor (fortunately I haven't need to since covid :fingers crossed:), getting to have a prescription filled is a farce. Our surgery has its own dispensary with 8 staff. We used to be told that it was up to a three day wait for repeat prescriptions so to get them in early. Now you are lucky if you can get them within two weeks! Mrs Shiney has repeat prescriptions so when I go to collect it I take the repeat order out of the back, fill it in, and put it back in immediately.

There is always a queue for prescriptions and the queueing area is the car park. Not the best place in the cold and the rain, especially if you're not well.
