Politics has for years now been down to picking a candidate you dislike the least.
I would have gone for the defence bloke, can't remember his name off hand, but he is not standing now.

I too think that for a PM we are looking for the least undesirable, and for me, at present, that is Jeremy Hunt.

 

How is a 13 years prison sentence 'life'?
Am I the only one who thinks that anyone convicted of killing someone with a knife should be locked up on a full life term? Automatic, no leeway for the tender hearted out of touch judges.

 

So you would not allow unintended death (manslaughter) or self defence or insanity to mitigate or the the chance for reformation or redemption.
Life meaning life has been tried before and has problems; it's expensive you end up with a group of prisoners who have nothing to lose so they become unmanageable, they have to be segregated for the protection of other prisoners, you need more guards. Prison violence goes up.
It does not act as a deterrent; people do not think I'll hit them with a hammer rather than stab them as I don't want a whole life sentence for a knife killing.
Also does it matter how somebody kills another person. The victim ends up dead regardless.

Murder, but not manslaughter, I was thinking that is what @Palustris meant.
I'd go a bit further, for premeditated murder, and they wouldn't cost much to keep afterwards either or get out of hand and unruly.

 

@Palustris our stupid supreme court just decided that if you kill one or 100 people, the max is the same. Really makes you wonder if they've never seen the attraction of those 2 for the price of one events.
