LATEST MOAN FROM YOU AND ME - 2022

Yes: I remember I had relatives who had a rule when I was a kid of no philosophy, politics or religion at the dinner table... the problem is - those are the important topics! But contentious...it's true.

 

Sounds like BBC is the same as our CBC. All opinions and not much factual reporting. Their weather reporting is okay though. They are usually 50% right about it..

I was thinking about moaning about the fact that we even have winters and then I thought, wait a minute, just how many bugs would we have if they didn't have a break in the nice weather and be forced to stop procreating for a bit!

 

funny - I was sitting my little home office moaning to myself about the weather: 9 degrees, foggy (very! No planes have landed for over a day) and damp. And then I just got off my behind and have walked a couple of miles up the beach to get soup for lunch. Absolutely fantastic! Nothing to moan about here. The sea was nearly high, flat and wintery; some of the morning dog walkers were still around. And great home made soup in a local cafe. Beautiful!

Oh Boris - you got Brexit done - but with this, you've just stepped across a red (or blue) line.

You dodged Parliament when questions were being asked - and you've only just now apologised - that's not good enough. You have democratic accountability - which means when questions are being asked you must be there to answer them.

The country pulled together in the first lock down - whilst you had a garden party - breaking the rules that you set. Yes, I'm sure others broke the rules as you did - but you are the PM - you must be seen to behave impeccably - or at least within the rules - you didn't.

Hancock went for less - it's time you handed over the reigns - if you don't - 2024 will be a rude awakening.

 

Well well, Starmer has now been found out.. He too attended a xmas party during lockdown. We'll trust that he does what he demands in his own words and does the decent thing RESIGN. (Video evidence source M. Tousi utube) two hours ago.

 

Marks & Spencer's have rebranded Midget gem sweets to avoid offending people with dwarfism. M&S is the first retailer to rebrand the sweets with other retailers likely to follow.

I see she finds the word offensive, but I can understand that if it is applied to a person, but not to an object.
I see they have changed them to mini gems.
So she wont mind being called mini then????

 

Agree completely. When we all start saying that lying is the unforgivable sin - at the ballot box - we will all be a lot better off.

 

I’m really happy that we modify our language slightly - at zero cost to ourselves - to include people otherwise they excluded. I’ve not suffered from all that goes with dwarfism so I’ll not trivialise their life experiences - awful as they probably are.

Addressing your historic privilege might not be the world gone mad. It might just be you having to think about your inherited privileges.

 

Are you a dwarf? If not you could try some empathy rather than the Daily Mail.

 

I realise that my last posts won’t be popular with some: but the langauage thing matters a lot to some people. And typically it matters to people who suffer for some horrible reasons.

it doesn’t hurt any of us to change our language - difficult though the practise is in daily life (and it is for me too). But if it makes life easier for short people - for example - then why wouldn’t we just do it? It isn’t the world gone mad: it’s the world with consequences for the underheard.

 

I do have empathy with people.
But not fruit sweets.

What's with the Daily Mail?

 

Many of our children's hockey teams are in the Midget class. They are not referring to dwarfs. They are referring to the various levels of age/skills that decide in which leagues you are allowed to play.

• Initiation – ages 5 & 6.
• Novice – ages 7 & 8.
• Atom – ages 9 & 10.
• Pee Wee – ages 11 & 12.
• Bantam – ages 13 & 14.
• Midget – ages 15-17.
• Junior / Juvenile – ages 18 & 19.

Midget used to be exhangable with dwarf as far as the world war 1,2 era was concerned. Midget was not meant to be derogatory. The little people were referred to as Midgets when the Wizard of Oz was filmed. And apparently they were the biggest partiers.

It is now considered an insulting term, and as @pete said, when referring to a human being.

But that's just my opinion. Because I'm considered one of the short people (got no reason) by some, and to others, I'm an amazon. And short people is one of my favourite songs.
