I want to change my moan about passports. My new and old were delivered in just over 2 weeks which makes me very suspicious of the .gov.uk website warning of 10 weeks. It's a scam frightening the likes of me into applying early because the new passport date doesn't follow the old expiry, I have lost two months. They don't do that for car MoTs so all I can think is they scrape a few extra quid every 10 years from everyone, it probably amounts to few million £££ across the population.

I feel a snotty letter to my MP is due, but will get ignored as she is just part of the gang.

Sounds like when they changed the car tax rules. If you sold a car you used to have a choice of selling the car with it taxed, or cash your tax in up to the end of the previous month. When they took that option away, it meant if you sold your car mid month, you lose a couple of weeks of tax, and the new owner then has to pay for the entire month, including the couple of weeks you'd already paid for but lost.

Good example @Clueless 1 v2 I had forgotten about car tax, both of these should be added to your stealth tax thread.

Pretty much the same happens with a TV licence, if you take a new one out on the last day of the month you have to pay for the whole month.

There's a dog outside, barking. I have no issue with that because it's not a constant thing. Except the owner is yelling at it to stop. As the dog barks, he keeps barking out, 'no'. Barking.... 'no'. Imagine what it must be like for the poor dog. It obviously feels it's appropriate to bark, and this belief will be reinforced by the fact that from the dog's perspective, the constant sharp barks of 'no' from its owner must just confirm that now it is appropriate to bark, after all, it's human is also barking, so there must be a good reason to bark.

I had breakfast with a friend who lived and worked over the pond for a number of years and she was telling me that she received notice that her UK pension would cease if they didn't hear from her. I can understand the powers that be wanting affirmation of life but the deadline for her to respond was only 2 days after she received the letter! I call that pretty unfair. She did manage to reach them before it became a final cut off but what is strange is that she had been interacting with them for the past year as she was arranging to go back to her maiden name and needed their records amended to reflect this change. And I thought it was only my government did things in a not so straight manner!

My Aunt who emigrated to Australia in the mid 80s always complains that her pension was frozen when she left here and has never risen since.
As I understand it the Australian government top up her pension to the level of the Aussie one.

                  But she still moans.:rolleyespink:

Two or three houses around here that have young teenagers have apparently bought their little angels those off road motor bikes.
The kids are not actually old enough to ride them on the roads.

This afternoon was terrible, they were racing around the block, I dont think any of them have silencers and one seems to have found how to make the bloody thing backfire all the time.
I'm waiting/ hoping for one of them to come a cropper, but I just feel sorry for the poor person who they run into, because the speed they are going it wont be pretty.

                    No protective clothing at all.

We had a similar problem last year with kids roaring around the lanes of our little valley on horrendous, noisy motorbikes. Belong to a Brit family that own acres of land, so why their kids couldn't amuse themselves on those, goodness knows. The grumpy Belgians who run gîtes on the other side of the valley soon put a stop to that  Luckily, the kids didn't use the chemin that borders our land, because I was thinking more along the lines of razor wire stretched across the chemin than having a quiet word with the parents :roflol:

So they're on the road illegally @pete. I'd give the police a call as they'll have no tax or insurance either.

Same here Pete, it's usually cars with no silencers racing each other.

Thanet has a population of just over 140,000 and there are only 4 police on duty to cover the whole area during the evening/overnight.
