I haven't used Yahoo for years and years. Doesn't Google Chrome use the Google search by default? You can change the default search engine. I'd have to log into my old computer to remind myself how but it's only a couple of mouse clicks in the settings area.

I've also noticed that quite often you get the ads first when you Google something these days rather than the first item being the website you are looking for.

My link did not show the report.

Basically Norwegians will be paying 4.5 Norway Krona per kWh (peak time) which is about 38p with the minimum cost being 0.0077 kWh which is 0.00066p On average the cost is 4.25 Norway Korona in the South and East of the country and peanuts in the North.

I think the UK imports about 5% of our electric from Norway which could be cut off in the coming months.

I do worry about energy bills over winter. I think my household will cope because luckily I earn a bit more than the national average. It's still going to be a massive financial pinch though. But I'm aware that a lot of people have a much lower income. I did some rough calculations. It looks to me like single pensioners whose only income is state pension and/or pension credits are likely to be worst hit. I think they'll be spending pretty much all of their income on heating this winter. I know they're getting an extra bit of spare change from the government to help with this but I don't think it's going to cut it.

I know people will say it's not the government's fault that fuel prices have gone through the roof, but it was the Tories that sold all our national assets. It feels like they want to cull the old and the poor. They had a go when covid came and they allowed the discharge of covid patients back to nursing homes but there's some left, so now it's a case of freezing them and starving them out.

Chrome is just a browser so you can use any search engine you want with it. Must say I thought all other search engines had fallen by the wayside including Yahoo @shiney, maybe there is a way to change Chrome back to use Google search by default.

Message from energy supplier - landed last night:

Ofgem's October price cap announcement is due on Friday 26 August and is expected to see prices increase by up to 80%

I can't see what all the fuss is about....

What were all the national assets that we had, I don't remember any of them.
We had some very lame duck industries that muddled through for years and just relied on the taxpayer to keep them afloat while over staffing and following archaic work practices, are they what you are referring to as assets.

The nursing home scandal will and should dog them for years, but I doubt any other government in this country would have done much differently, I think with covid there was just panic, pretty much all over the world.

Thanks @JWK I've just changed the default engine back to Google (already forgotten how I did it! :old:). I always had Google so don't know how it changed to Yahoo.

Do you have a touch screen.
I find you can do thousands of setting upsets with those without even trying.
Every part of the screen is a nightmare waiting to happen. :rolleyespink:

That sounds like the old argument that the government didn't do any worse than the the party that we rejected. It's a shame that that's the best we can expect from our elected representatives.

That's one of those modern thingies, isn't it? My screen is too far away from my seat to be able to touch it. :noidea: :)

Well, yes it's a shame but unfortunately most western countries seem to be in the same boat.
Been voted for the one I hated least for many years now.
It's never going to change but in some ways, do we really want it to.
I can think of lots of places in the world where they have a different system.
Not sure how many are better off.

I am a pensioner on limited income but until now, would have enough to weather a Winter in my indoor clothing with enough food ect....
This 80% energy announcement is worrying me already - thinking of the cost of food and other essentials just spiraling as a result ....
I am reducing the temperature of my washloads by 10% and will put the cycle on hold for 30 minutes at the beginning of the wash. Hoping that my effort to " soak the load " will ensure it gets the same clean performance as it would have at 10% hotter.

Would appreciate a thread on ways and means to save money please ADMIN @Fat Controller please,

You could start one @Jenny namaste.
Good idea, although apart from only doing my washing once a week I don't have any good ideas.

I will be dipping in my savings more heavily than I ever intended by the looks of it.
And once the greedy multi national companies have cleaned me out I'll probably just walk off into the sunset.
