I struggle to see what it has to do with having babies.
Ok, maybe women should get a few free years of contributions but not 5 more years pension.;)

Yes, I'd heard of it, JWK. It's good that they're still fighting, but sadly, I think if anything was going to be achieved, it would have been by now. As for writing to my former MP, Peter Bone didn't deign to reply when we wrote several times concerning Brexit. I don't think he ever will unless it's in his own interest to do so. The archetypal self-serving, slimy politician.

That was the traditional reason given for the lower pension age. Apparently, it takes it out of a girl, all this reproduction lark :roflol: Still, nowadays, apart from the actual birth, men are just as implicated in the child care (aren't they?) so no doubt you're right and we should all quietly pop off at 67 before we cost the Gov money. I can die happy knowing that all my contributions went towards paying for someone else's long, comfortable retirement ;) Or, even better, that some benefits scrounger made the transition from professional layabout to retired layabout at the expense of people who (silly us!) worked extremely hard for most of our lives.

Me! Me! Me! :hapydancsmil: My pension actually went up a bit more than 25p last year  and I had trouble thinking of how to spend such a vast increase.

However, shortages of gas, which generated 40% of UK electricity last year, could mean planned three-hour blackouts in some areas to protect supplies for heating homes and buildings, system operators warned.

The boffins who wrote this have missed out one important factor. People will use less gas because of the horrendous price. There won't be a shortage.

I notice that all the fire lighters in Morrisons had been sold. A lot of people - including me - will be cleaning out and recommissioning the old wood burner this Winter.

I get the feeling this is one of those things that the media has latched onto and are doing their usual, :stirpot::stirpot::stirpot:.
We might get power cuts, who knows but they even know how long they will be and at what times.
                All speculation.

If I really try my very best to find something positive about the current situation, it is this.

At least now the blatant lies and manipulation of data by governments past and present are coming rapidly to the surface.

So we've been told that Britain is leading the way on issues like the environment and that we have good energy security. In fact for the past few years as much as 40% of our electricity has come from renewables and we don't have to worry about Russia because only 4% of our energy comes from there.

Great. We're in a solid position then.

Nope. 40% of our energy does NOT come from renewables, because they include biomass, which of course requires energy for processing, and we've recently learned that a lot of the 'renewable' biomass is actually trees in a pristine forest in Canada.

Ok, so what about the fact that only 4% of our energy comes from Russia. Another lie that might never have become public knowledge if not for the current crisis. The truth is more like only 4% of our gas comes directly from Russia, but a significant chunk of our energy is imported from Europe, which gets their gas from Russia.

I think Truss is short-sighted by not preparing a public information campaign for energy saving. Suggesting to the public that they can help reduce the likelihood of blackouts but not putting the washing on in the early evening or delaying charging the car until bedtime is sensible advice. If you have no blackouts fine, but just one could see her crucified for lack of preparedness.
The Department of Health and Social Care don't want to scare the elderly into not turning their heating on but we are already afraid to do so. My heating is turned down and of an evening I stick a thick fleece on to ward off the cold.

Maybe she is trying to get away from nanny state policies of leading all the morons around by the nose, some people seem to have to be told every detail about how to run their lives, especially since covid.
You know to put a fleece on rather than turn the heating up.
Maybe some others will also be able to sort that one out for themselves, if not you pay the price.
