Amazon want £16 for a bog standard hanging basket. At that rate i will have to lock up the ones i have in the shed each night. Prices for garden related gear all gone up over the last month. Supply and demand or blatant PROFITEERING.

Locals here have nicknamed our MP Mr invisible.
Almost 90k a year and he does naff all. And they're considering medals for MPs!! I would find that so utterly distasteful, disrespectful and offensive and I can't even write to my MP about it as he can't be found!
The story has made me a touch fractious. They are completely out of touch with what's happening; I know it's another body that says what the increase should be but holy crap have a bit of empathy with the common man.

I think that is a fairly common attitude most people have regarding their MP.
One of the well know ones around here doesn't even live in the constituency she represents.
Its just a job to most of them with a few exceptions.

I'm quite common, apparently. but unique at the same time.

The law restoring the right to vote of Brits living abroad for more than 15 years is just being ratified. Something that various governments have been promising for donkeys years.
It won't make the slightest difference to the evil tick that is my former MP, he's too well attached to dislodge, but it will be very satisfying to at least try to vote him out of a job :hapfeet:

Our MP is very active both in parliament and in the constituency and I have voted for him since before he became an MP and has now retained his seat four times. Although I applaud most of what he does I have told him I can't vote for him, or his party, with his current views on a couple of bills going through parliament at the moment. Will my opinion make any difference? Shouldn't think so!

The Mayor of London, (I usually call him something else), has decided to expand his money grabbing emission zones to the out lying boroughs.
I'm confused as how does he, ( I usually call him something else), have the right to impose this on areas he clearly doesn't control.
As the KCC are now in dispute and threatening not to put up the signage for the little twerp.

The Twerp has said then motorists will be fined and not realise they have crossed into London.
So Twerp, if it's London how come the KCC have to put signs up for you? Idiot.
This bloke seriously needs sorting out and bringing down a peg or two.

Years and years ago, our local MP was Marjorie Mowlam, better known as Mo Mowlam. She was one of the few exceptions. On local issues, she was always available to speak to in person. She used to hold weekly 'surgeries' in the library where folks could just go in and talk to her. She also worked really, really hard to negotiate a peace deal with the various factions in northern Ireland. She did all this, even when towards the end she was seriously sick with terminal cancer. But guess what. When the northern Ireland deal reached a point where all parties had reached agreement, and all that was left to do was collect a bunch of signatures to formalise it, the government of the day dropped her and put some bloke in that nobody knew, I can't even remember his name, and he took all the credit. Mo Mowlam continued for a while despite this, serving as local MP. I can't remember if she stepped down in the end or not, but the cancer got the better of her not long after that.

London bus strikes: Abellio drivers accept pay rise

Not a moan as such, but an 18% rise gives all the other unions more ammo to hold out.
Frankly I won't be surprised if the companies give in and hand out massive pay rises and then file for bankruptcy.

                            Yes that wouldn't surprise me.

Maybe it's different in London but round here busses are empty since covid and working from home arrived.

I compiled a modest seed order with one of France's better Companies last night. Just 5 items. €28 + €7.95 postage. Around £25 + £7.02. Forget it! Lidl will have to do for the basics, but it's heartbreaking not having access to anything remotely out of the ordinary now. How the hell do they justify nearly €8 for postage? :paladin:

They'll justify it by blaming Brexit or covid @noisette47. We're all being robbed.

Even before the horrors, plant prices to the Highlands were and still are extortionate. A nursery in England wanted £40 to deliver a plant costing £8. I have found that postage is fairly reasonable if ordering through the RHS though.
