I don't care whose fault it is, or why they asked the questions ... it annoyed me.

 

It would probably annoy you more if they didn't do proper checks, then some complete stranger opened it in your name, maxed out the overdraft on it, and left you to pick up the bill.

 

The questions dont actually sound like security questions more like some kind of survey.
Surely just proof of identity is all that they need to know, the rest is just them being nosey, I'd have walked out if they asked me those questions.

Once they know who you are these days they can probably find out everything else for themselves the way we are all followed around these days.

 

OK Don't keep on ... there's no point, it won't make any difference. I was annoyed. I don't care about the details, I was annoyed. I am still annoyed. I will remain annoyed.

 

They can find pretty much everything out. They want to know that you know.

Identity theft is a very real thing. When the government was handing out covid loans to businesses, it transpired that lots of companies that took the loans weren't real. Lots of ordinary folks found themselves in the news for all the wrong reasons, saddled with huge debts they knew nothing about, because some dodgy sort had used their details and registered them as company directors. A few years before that, HSBC was in the news, because one of their call centres was running a scam, setting up second accounts for customers and keeping the debit cards. It's a real mine field. Personally I'd take it the exact opposite way, if a financial company didn't grill me when setting up a new account, I'd find it very difficult to trust them and would probably go somewhere else where they take security much more seriously.

 

I'll shut up then.

 

Just ask for photo ID, passport or driving licence, the rest, like what I spend my money on is none of their business.
If I was a borrower it might be different, but opening a current account is not like taking out a loan, if they decide to give you an overdraft at a later date they can ask those questions then.

 

They asked if I wanted an overdraft and I said no.
And I won't want to borrow any money either, and I told them so. I just wanted to open the account.
I had to open the current account before I could open a savings account, that's all it was for. I don't really need it, I've got one in the bank, but I wanted a savings account and had to have the current account first.

 

You should have pointed out that as you would be giving them money maybe they should be the ones answering the questions.

Oh, that is totally absurd Woo! Our prescriptions are given to us normally 6 months per prescription. You can get it all at once, monthly or however you wish to take it.

 

@wiseowl, I have the NHS app and dont find it any real use, especially when it comes to prescriptions.
Just try one of the online pharmacies and get everybody registered, they sort it all out for you, you will probably just get something from your surgery asking you to confirm it.

Prior to doing this a couple of years ago I was having to contact my surgery every month for repeats, but as they didn't let you do it over the phone I had to actually go there and put a request into their letterbox.
Then go to the pharmacy and collect it, half the time the pharmacy would say they hadn't received it, it was a nightmare.

With the app you just get a notification about a week before you run out and you just hit "order", job done, until it drops though your letter box.
