This is what I'm trying to work out, do we have all these extra services or are they just the usual ones being given a different name.

Lets face it, if you broke your leg a walk in centre wouldn't be much use.

Sort of. But the lithium ion battery is the same idea as the lemon, zinc and copper battery but a massive performance improvement; the NHS and public sector just seem to dribble about the same idea and performance levels.

What a load of waffle this is:dunno:

At the moment, the NHS offers a mix of walk-in centres, urgent care centres, minor injury units and urgent treatment centres, all with different levels of service.

By the end of 2019, these will all be called urgent treatment centres.

Urgent treatment centres are GP-led and open for at least 12 hours a day every day of the week (including bank holidays).

You may be referred to an urgent treatment centre by NHS 111 or by your GP. You can also just turn up and walk in.

Conditions that can be treated at an urgent treatment centre include:
          • sprains and strains
          • suspected broken limbs
          • minor head injuries
          • cuts and grazes
          • bites and stings
          • minor scalds and burns
          • ear and throat infections
          • skin infections and rashes
          • eye problems
          • coughs and colds
          • feverish illness in adults
          • feverish illness in children
          • abdominal pain
          • vomiting and diarrhoea
          • emergency contraception

          Teeth problems?

Toothache, when severe, can be an awful experience, so preventing it or seeking appropriate help will clearly be a priority for anyone, and especially over the festive period.

Patients should not delay seeing a dentist when they start to get symptoms as dental problems are much better dealt with sooner before serious pain develops, so seek advice from the professionals who can help you early on.

          Feeling unwell?

If you are feeling unwell, and you cannot self-care at home, please remember you can consult your pharmacist, who is a medical expert. If you are unsure if you need to access health care services, call 111 for advice.

            I agree with you @wiseowl

I've just looked up our local Urgent Treatment Centre. At the main hospital it is open from 7 a.m. to midnight but I can't find anywhere where it tells you where it is.

Our nearest community hospital (small hospital linked to the main one but in a different town) also has one listed and open similar to office hours and no weekends. On further examination it is actually the Minor Injuries Department and not a UTC. That department is excellent and we have had need to use it twice recently. Phoned them, they said just turn, booking in was simple, seen within 15 minutes (half a dozen medics in small cubicle), superb service even though one of the problems was rather unusual. We wouldn't hesitate to go back. Parking was easy, 30 minutes free but still need a ticket displayed, and I asked at reception what I do if it takes longer than 30 minutes. "Do nothing, we don't have a car park attendant!" :heehee:

Our other community hospital is in another town ten miles in the opposite direction and parking there is free and the service, again, is superb. Mrs Shiney has to attend there regularly.

The main hospital has an awful reputation - was on the news for it.

I'm just trying to work out what the procedure is and where you go, when being told not to use A&E.

              Sorry for waffling.

Well I assume that the Maidstone one is next to A&E as well, but never noticed it.

It's good to hear that they only managed to kill 3 horses yesterday in the grand national.
I don't think that is particularly "grand" myself.
Too many horses and too many fences.

I didn't see any horses die. Plenty of jockeys fell off but their horses kept running.

And those are only the ones you hear about, there is many more put down later due to injuries.
I think it's between 180/220 horses die at the race track annually, but under the freedom of information act, reports revealed that thousands of race horses were sent to abattoirs since 2019.
