These are great for gripping those glued on lids under the salad dfessing, mayo jar, etc caps. I bought them many years ago from Lee Valley Tools. The pic doesn't show it but the gripper edges are grooved and the handles will lock closed if you want.

And Mars have just announced they will be using a new idea - wrapping Mars bars in paper. New idea? They were wrapped in paper originally, when I first started buying them back in the year dot.

I've just heard the Morrisons have put their petrol up by 10p a litre.
                Its now £1.48.

Just checking out my doctors surgery on line, there are 5 doctors but none work five days, one works 4 days a week and three do 3 days and one does 2 days.

Now I'm not condemning them, because I dont know what they all get up to on the days they are not at the surgery.

The practice likes you to always see your assigned doctor so you have to make sure you are only ill on the days that they are there, in my case Monday, Thursday or Friday, and it states it a 4 week wait if you want a non urgent appointment.

The Government tell us there is a real shortage of GPs in the country.
I find that strange, because if I'm prepared to pay a private fee I can speak to one in a couple of hours or so and even see one tomorrow.
That doesn't sound like a shortage to me.
                  Dentists are the same.

So are they working for the NHS just out of the goodness of their hearts, at a loss, and having to do jobs on the side to keep out of the poverty trap, or are they just playing the system.

IMO playing the system. Plus of course using Covid as an excuse for not seeing patients face to face.

The last time I saw a GP at my surgery was 3 years ago when they were giving the Flu injections, I thought this strange and then realised they were being paid extra to do this task.

A GP gave you a flu jab??, where I go I think they drag people in off the street to do the job, what I mean is, that is all they do, injections and have a list of relevant question to ask on a list.

The problem of doctors not working a full week is because of the stupid rules they the NHS has about pensions. Once their pension fund has reached a certain limit they got penalised if they earned more money through the NHS . So they reduced their work for the NHS and did more private work. That's a very simplified explanation.

It's explained a bit more here https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-8626/ (I wouldn't waste your time ) and even more so in the links in the document - but the extract below sums things up pretty well.

The government are saying they are changing the rules but, like everything else, much too late. They were warned about ten years ago about it and the BMA did a survey that included this information

"Our survey of over eight thousand doctors revealed that:
                      • 72% said freezing the lifetime allowance would make them more likely to retire early
                      • 61% of respondents said they would be more likely to work fewer hours
                      • 41% said they would be more likely to give up additional responsibilities.

This is in addition to the thousands who have already left in previous years due to other government pension taxation rules, including the tapered annual allowance"

I'd be just happy to have a pension of that size.

After I paid 35 years contributions I wasn't allowed to stop paying the stamp, or a reduced stamp, so basically I was penalised. Like a lot of other ordinary people.

I paid over 40 years but at that time you needed 44 years for a full state pension. I then started working, unpaid, for a charity and the DHS wouldn't give me credits even though I was working as I didn't have an income or pay tax. I was able, in those days, to buy my credits from the DHS to make it up to a full pension. I can't really remember how long it took to get the cost of those credits back but I think it was four years. :noidea:

Why does Nescafe Gold Blend refill cost more per 100 g than a similar amount of Nescafe Gold Blend in a glass jar unless you have the store loyalty card.

Because they like to rip you off.
TBH I know its more expensive, but since I bought the coffee maker all that instant stuff just tastes awful.
