...And you've picked up on something else Pete.

Several has always meant seven to me. A few - three and a couple - two, but a few now means anything and not just three.

I never associated "few" as being a specific number, just a few really.:dunno:

Perhaps when you get to my age (that is 75) you may understand.

(No, I am not trying to be nasty; I would quite like to learn Pidgin, and it seems the bbc is teaching it)

By the way, nice reference to George Carlin with the "50%" :)

There is a regular advertisement on radio made by British Gas where the voice used always calls it Bri-ish Gas! The letter T is also missing from quite a few of his other words (at least thrice) and I wonder at whom they are aiming the advertisement.

I have noticed it in a lot of other advertisements as well. Even some newsreaders are using 'lazy English'. I don't mind it too much in general conversation but it still 'grates on the ear' (another saying that is rarely used :heehee:).

In a town near us, where I used to work and live, most of the residents seemed to drop the initial H from the name of the town when they were speaking. The word 'hat' had also been shortened to 'a' by dropping both the H and T.

I was brunged up in Norf Lundun and the East End and our spoken English was not very good - until our school teachers forced a change upon us. After that we spoked proppa!

Aren't boudoirs the demesne of the lady, so the gentleman/swain/knight would vist the lady's boudoir.

I was taught thus: fewer was for countable things; whilst less was used non countable things.

Legal challenge against Welsh Government’s decision to stop free school meals in summer holidays

Quite right. What do the kids eat otherwise. People seem to under estimate how important free school meals are.

I can remember when parents fed their kids, I know it was a long time ago.

I thought I heard on the news this morning that the Welsh government/local authorities were running activities for kids where they will get fed if they go along.

My Mum was a Dinner Lady. She has told me stories that would make your toes curl. Kids having nothing all day except the school scran. She gave lleft over food to the kids who would wait outside the kitchen door. Free school meals are a vital safety net that many overlook. Mark Drakeford reckons it would cost 15 million over the school hols. Well, dont spend money replacing 30mph speed signs. The world is bonkers. I feel a stiff email coming on, someone needs roasting.
