Maybe that's why I don't have visitors  :heehee: I don't allow people to use phones whilst in company. If someone wants to make a call or when they receive one they have to leave the room. :paladin:

@JWK, I am a bit hard of hearing but in the majority of films I can hear the speech well enough, often older films.
But the acting in a lot of modern stuff has become so casual the speech is just like mumbling to one another.
Maybe they are trying to be more realistic, I dont know really, but I think I could do with subtitles sometimes.

Having had my hearing tested for balance problems, I an okay, but agree with what Pete says ... and forget it with most accents!

Actually, it is fortunate for me as the channels I mostly watch are Crime and Odisseia (nature & Travel Documentaries) have Portuguese sub-titles and I often know what is going by reading it, even though it is in English/American.

I'm not keen on subtitles, I find myself reading them even when I can hear the dialogue, so I'm not really watching the action.

I use subtitles a lot as I watch programmes from around the world and have totally got use to them....I think of them as video books now.

There are also lots of actors who whisper! Even on my beloved Corrie, the son of Gail, Steven, whispers through his lines.

And the Dr. Blake series, the star whispers a lot.

And our Prime Minister lispers. Oh well, no one listens to him anyway. And now he's let a Chinese spy balloon saunter across our country without so much as a lisper. The Americans shot it down - good but now..

Good afternoon this is just a moan and not a criticism of anyone or anything born out of sheer frustration of the times we live in;):heehee:

12'clock the mobile informed me that a text had arrived by beeping at me,I read the text it was informing yours truly that I was due a blood test for a medication review ,it instructed me to book a blood test on line at a certain clinic giving me a Patient/reference number ,I went on line I had to register and I answered all the usual questions what size shoes do I take and what colour was my hair if I had any left:heehee: when I eventually got to the question of who was my GP every time this same box appeared ,I attempted this 6 times and each time the box appeared,so being a wiseowl I thought to myself I know I shall phone up by the number given to me in the text that I received 3 miutes following the instructions in the text when given the options please chose option one each of the 6 times,to be told you are 5th in the queue ,I then went on speaker phone ,yes I know all about this new technology about 20 minutes later a very pleasant young ladies voice bid me good morning and said to are you another one who has been on line trying to book a blood test and every time you try and put your GP in the box you find that its not possible I said my "how astute of you" :heehee: and she said no "not really its been like that for over a week now" it took her about 2 minutes and she said all done have a lovely day,and I bid her a fond farewell and said thank you for your time:smile:

Oh fuffies!!! I spent a happy couple of hours yesterday compiling a seed order with Plantworld. "We ship globally" they proudly claim. Whoopee...nobody else in UK ships to France now, and the lack of interesting perennial, tree and veggie seeds is starting to get to me.
So....two hours of my life gone only to find out at the checkout stage that their idea of 'global' doesn't include the EU. Not their fault, of course, but they could mention the fact BEFORE you compile an order :wallbanging::mad:

I share your frustration @noisette47. Living here in the Highlands seeds aren't a problem but getting plants delivered here is either not possible, or nurseries want to charge extortionate postage. You'd think they were delivering to the moon. :frown:

I had similar problems when living on the Isle of Man which was expected, but it's frustrating when I'm living on the same bigger island as everyone else.

Have you got a relative or kind friend that would place the order and send it on to you?

Hi Sheal, that avenue is well and truly closed too since Customs have got the bit between their teeth. Many folks living over here have been hit with ridiculously high charges for receiving parcels or even just 'letter post'. That's if the wickedly contraband nature of the goods got through, which is doubtful. Truly, it's easier to traffic ****** heroin!
We have friends and rellies coming over later this year, but I wouldn't put them in the delicate position of smuggling.
I can see why it's frustrating when you supposedly live in the same country!

Can you order from other countries such as America, or is the problem the same from anywhere worldwide?

It's when they say, "We only deliver to the mainland.". They must think the whole of Scotland is an island.
