    Just read in the news

A student police officer telling her fellow students that she take illegal drugs :nonofinger: she has now left the police and now there is hearing for misconduct :heehee:
I wonder if she fellow pollice students grassed her up :ccheers:

Just heard the NHS has 120,000 vacancies, they must be saving a lot of money.
Or would they not be able to pay everyone if they filled all the vacancies.

None of this makes sense to me.

I think they need to drop the word apprenticeship and just say "in training", I did an apprenticeship and nobody these days would want to do that.

I'd say that's rubbish. If they employed that many tomorrow they couldn't pay them! It's just sensationalism again. That said, all public sector employment is bonkers. They pay less and are wholly inefficient across the board and wonder about high staff turnover

As I understand it all the technical colleges that used to do vocational training and apprenticeships are now called universities. Not wishing to demean but some offer hairdressing degrees. What it means is practically every kid has to have a degree.

We used to get a lot of midshipmen coming through university on a bursary as long as they signed up for a minimum term and were actually good enough. Apprenticeship by another name.
I'm actually a big fan of apprenticeships but they need to be run well

But what is actually involved in an apprenticeship these days, its just on the job training.

Do they sign up up for X amount of years and sign a document that says they will be home in bed by 10pm.:roflol:

A lot of the "patient facing positions" are covered by staff doing additional shifts.
There is a lot of inefficiency and waste in the NHS, also too many managers each with a deputy or assistant.
Recently took 4+ weeks for a letter to reach my GP from the Ophthalmology department, GP refused prescription until they received that letter, shortage of typists.
Local hospital still relies on hand written notes in manilla files, GP records are pretty much all computerised.
Neither GP nor Hospital use email for patient communication

Typically on the job training plus 1 or more days a week at the local college.
Thatcher allowed the polytechnics to change their names to University. So Westminster Poly became University of the South Bank and Bristol Poly became University of the West of England.
The problem was they then became more academic and moved away from the practical and technical courses of use to local industries.
Blair decided that at least 50% of school leavers should go on to university so there was a proliferation in hairdressing, beauty, photography and tourism degrees.

I won't take offence John as I did a 3 year apprenticeship in a salon that included a day in college and courses of varying lenghts up in London too. This was followed by a 2 year period as an Improver. So 5 years in all . Unless your hair falls out , your scalp gets burnt, your hair turn green , your hair straightening doesn't go as planned or you get an awful cut people don't seem to realise what it really entails.... true mens hair is lot easier on the whole still.
It really isn't about getting the scissors out and having a snip. You learn how to mix different colours up to achieve a certain looK, use bleach with varying volumes of peroxide.
Just the health and safety issues are lot to take in...and thats before you get snipping. Injuries resulting from badly carried out hairdressing procedures can be horrific!

Yes a signed legal agreement was a requirement at the very start of the training which included the confirmation of abiding to it by the said apprentice and the parents/ guardians too.

No matter what the subject is the better the training the better and safer the outcomes are.

@Upsydaisy I suspect that like me most of the chaps on here haven't need a hairdresser/barber for a decade or more.

Email to surgery, when it opened, has resulted in prescription being approved pronto.

                      You speak for yourself :roflol:

Just from my point of view I find most practical jobs have been deskilled these days.
We had technical colleges around here, most are now housing estates.:dunno:
Is it any wonder we have to import people to do most of our manual jobs.

Even the barbers, of which we have many, in the town, and foreign.
I think they set fire to your ears. :roflol:

I am assured this is the case by my younger colleagues who frequent the local Turkish barber, also neck rubs are mentioned.
