At least Angela Rayner is unlikely to say that the worst deprivation of her childhood was not having Sky TV.

And the Tories gave us ...

Austerity, a clever wheeze to ensure money stays with the wealthy during a downturn
A referendum to attempt to quash an internal party disagreement
Yrs of arguing over the result in the HoC
Partygate while the rest of us conformed to lockdowns
Billions wasted on pandemic contracts for mates
A PM who was a known liar and unfit for office
Truss as one of the possible replacements
            Trussonomics
Energy price cap paid for by us rather than those who made all the money out of it
            Water quality deterioration
Unfit persons in charge of the PO, who then went on to be honoured for their failure

And ... the wealthier got wealthier and wealthier and wealthier.

This list is just the main low-lights off the top of my head and before my morning caffeine infusion. And I should add that all this was able to happen because of lack of journalistic scrutiny and a media so biased it is unfit for purpose.

              Quite possibly.

I suspect she is someone for whom power will go to her head. She reminds me of Thatcher in some ways. We will see. I'd be happy to give her a chance and keep my fingers crossed she does not lose sight of the wider mission, ie a fairer country economically over her own career.

They all seem to have had the same speech coach, I've noticed the Labour lot all seem to pause at certain points when speaking, or maybe it's just my imagination.
The whole plan revolves around 'growing the economy ' but they are not letting us in on the secret of how they will do that.

I make a point of not voting for anyone whose address on the ballot paper isn't at least in the general vicinity of the constituency. I know there are ways of giving a misleading address, but if for example they give a London address on the ballot paper (usually it's the Conservative candidate) I know they're not even trying to give the impression that they'd be a good representative for the people who actually do live in the constituency.

It'll be interesting this time because our MP for the last 25 years is standing down.

I'm very happy that I can't vote in the national elections, as a foreign national, as frankly this two party system is suffocating any chance of real change. We urgently need a strengthened Green Party to push back on vox pop policies that only address short term gains.

Labour has been hugely disappointing in how they downgraded the ambitions they had for a green economy and all that Ed Miliband proclaimed a year ago. They just run scared because of the anti net zero propaganda of the right and assorted tin foil hat parties. We need to disentangle ourselves from fossil fuels and start taking seriously how we have allowed the degradation of the natural environment to reach out nearest rivers and beaches.

The usual whataboutery supporters will say but how about China and India...guess what, we can't do much about them but we can certainly invest in a sustainable forms of energy that will make us less dependent on the Saudis and Russia.
The fact there was no questioning on green investment at the Sky News debate last night was so depressing.

We keep talking about D day while the planet is on fire.

The only Labour leader I could ever take to was Harold Wilson :roflol:....and he had his faults too.

Outriders for our local Labour candidate came knocking yesterday. "Who are you going to vote for?" they said. "It's none of your business", was the only appropriate response ...
